This Is When NVIDIA Will End Windows 10 Support

Aug 01, 2025 am 06:03 AM

Windows 10 is nearing its end of life. Mainstream support will officially conclude in October 2025, with a limited extended support window offering security updates only until 2026. Beyond that point, maintaining the system will become increasingly difficult—and NVIDIA is about to make it even more so.

NVIDIA has confirmed it will continue delivering essential updates, including performance enhancements for new games and applications, to Windows 10 users until October 2026. This timeline extends slightly beyond Microsoft’s official end-of-support date of October 14, 2025, and aligns closely with the availability of the Windows 10 ESU (Extended Security Updates) program, which offers temporary security patches. Users can access these updates through various means—purchasing them, redeeming Microsoft Points, or, more recently, obtaining a free update package via OneDrive. However, this also means GPU driver updates will have a definitive cutoff unless users transition to a newer operating system.

Today, NVIDIA released a new Game Ready Driver update that still includes support for Windows 10, bringing performance improvements for upcoming games and expanding the G-Sync Compatible program with 62 additional monitor models. This certification ensures these displays meet NVIDIA’s standards for variable refresh rate (VRR) performance, minimizing screen tearing and stutter for a smoother gaming experience. While Windows 10 users can expect several more updates over the remainder of this year and much of 2025, support will effectively end after that.

How to Update Your Graphics Drivers for Maximum Gaming Performance

Don't let outdated drivers hurt your gaming performance.

1 This isn’t entirely unexpected. Despite being a decade old—soon to be 11 by the time NVIDIA pulls the plug—Windows 10 remains widely used. Part of that persistence stems from Microsoft’s strict upgrade requirements, which often push users with older hardware to buy new PCs. NVIDIA isn’t required to support Windows 10 past October 2025, so offering an extra year is a generous extension. Still, it may not be enough for everyone. And NVIDIA isn’t alone—many companies will gradually drop support for Windows 10, but its decision carries significant weight given how many users rely on NVIDIA GPUs.

As for hardware support, GPUs built on the Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures—including the widely used GeForce GTX 900 and 10-series—will receive their final full Game Ready Driver update in October 2025. After that, only quarterly updates will be provided until October 2028. That means users with these older graphics cards have a short window to consider upgrading, regardless of which operating system they plan to use.
