Samsung's 2016 flagship models rank among the most elegant and high-performing smartphones ever created. Remarkably, thanks to renowned root developer Chainfire, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are set to become even more powerful.

Android Root Explained In Detail for Beginners
Shortly after their launch, a root method was introduced for these two exceptional devices—one that is fast, simple, and straightforward. If you're looking to customize your S7 or S7 edge with various software tweaks, I'll walk you through the complete process below.
Before You Begin
The rooting tool we'll use unlocks your device's bootloader. If your bootloader hasn't already been unlocked, this will erase all data on your phone and void your warranty.
In addition, this procedure will activate KNOX, Samsung’s built-in security system. As a result, Samsung Pay will no longer function post-rooting. Activating KNOX may also prevent access to enterprise services provided by your company, so make sure to consider this before proceeding.
There's another drawback—U.S. carrier versions of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon) have locked bootloaders, meaning this method won’t work for those models. Additionally, it won't function on any S7 or S7 edge model powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor. Be sure to check this guide to confirm your device's processor type before starting. If yours uses a Snapdragon chip, there's an alternative root solution available.

If your model is compatible and you're aware of the consequences, let's begin. You’ll need a Windows PC and a dependable USB cable for this process.
Enable 'OEM Unlocking'
To kick things off, you must enable a hidden setting on your Galaxy S7. Start by activating the "Developer options" menu using these instructions.
After enabling Developer options, navigate to Settings > Developer options and toggle on the "OEM unlock" option.
Skipping this step is not an option.
Boot into Download Mode & Connect to Your PC
First, power off your phone completely. Then press and hold the power, home, and volume down buttons together. This will bring up the "Download mode" screen. Press the volume up button to confirm, then connect your phone to your PC via USB.
The correct key combination to enter Download mode.
Download the Samsung USB Drivers
On your Windows machine, visit the following link to download the Samsung USB drivers. The file is an EXE, so simply run it and follow the prompts to install the necessary drivers.
- Download the Samsung USB drivers
Download & Extract CF Auto Root & Odin
Next, grab a copy of CF Auto Root from one of the links below based on your specific model:
- Download CF Auto Root for the Galaxy S7
- Download CF Auto Root for the Galaxy S7 edge
Once downloaded, extract the ZIP contents into a folder you can easily access, and keep that folder open.
Run Odin as an Administrator
Right-click the Odin3-v3.10.6.exe file extracted from the CF Auto Root package and select "Run as administrator." Administrative rights are required for this utility to function properly.
Root Your Phone
Now it's time to start the rooting process. In Odin, click the "AP" button in the center of the screen and choose the CF Auto Root tar.md5 file from the folder you previously extracted.
Wait briefly until the Log tab displays "Leave CS," then click "Start" to initiate the rooting process. Everything will proceed automatically. Once completed, your phone will restart normally.
Verify Root
After your phone reboots, it should now be rooted. To confirm, install an app called Root Checker by joeykrim from the Google Play Store.
- Install Root Checker for free from the Google Play Store
Launch the app and tap "Verify Root." When prompted, grant the app Superuser permissions. If everything went smoothly, you’ll see a message stating, "Congratulations! Root access is properly installed on this device!"
