How to Play Space Invaders & Other Old School Atari 2600 Games on Your Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Jul 23, 2025 am 12:24 AMAtari—it's the gaming console that officially kicked off the era of sleepless nights and questionable eating habits for both kids and adults. If you think modern games like Call of Duty are addictive, imagine trying to beat Space Invaders on the original Atari 2600 back in the '80s (ranked the second greatest console of all time by IGN).
While the tendency to game for hours hasn't changed much in the last 30 years, the technology definitely has—and it's that progress that lets us revisit our '80s gaming nostalgia.
Two buttons, a shaky joystick, 8-bit graphics, no real depth, and no online play—what's not to enjoy?
If you'd like to relive the days of Space Invaders or try other classic Atari titles like Pitfall!, Adventure, Atlantis, and Missile Command, here's how you can do it right on your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (or any Android device).
How to Play Classic Atari 2600 Games on the Note 2
To enjoy your favorite retro games, we'll use an Atari 2600 emulator named Droid2600, compatible with most Android devices. It's not listed on the Google Play Store, so first, we'll need to allow installation from Unknown Sources...
Enable Unknown Sources
If it's not already enabled, go to Settings -> Security and ensure that Unknown sources is enabled. This allows installation of apps from outside the Google Play Store.
Download Droid2600
On your Galaxy Note 2, visit ROMS4DROID and download the Droid2600 APK file, then install it.
Find Atari Game ROMs
Keep in mind, Droid2600 doesn't come with any built-in games—you'll need to find your own ROM files. While it's possible to convert your original Atari cartridges into ROMs, it's much easier to search for them online. Just perform a quick Google search, but be sure to only download ROMs for games you legally own.
Open Droid2600
Once you've downloaded a ROM—say, Space Invaders or another title—open Droid2600 and tap Select ROM. Navigate to your Download folder, where you should find all the ROMs you've saved.
For this example, I'm going to try out Pitfall!
Play!
After selecting your ROM, tap Play and the game will launch.
During gameplay, tap Menu to adjust your control settings (joystick, paddle, keypad, or tilt), access save/load options, or reset the game.
