You can pre-order the Flip 7 now, with general sales commencing on July 25, 2025. The 256GB variant costs $1,099.99. However, those who pre-order the handset can get a free storage upgrade to 512GB, which would otherwise cost $1,219.99.

The Flip 7 FE will also follow a similar release schedule. Its 128GB variant costs $899.99. However, early buyers will get a free upgrade to the 256GB (worth $959.99).

Flip 7 Carries a Modern Aesthetic With a Sleek Chassis

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Goodbye Snapdragon, Welcome Exynos

While the Flip 7 is Samsung's flagship flip-style handset, the Flip 7 FE is an affordable version (or rather a reiteration of the Flip 6).

As a result, you'll find all the design-related advancements, such as a larger cover screen (like the Razr Ultra 2025), thinner bezels, and a slimmer side profile, on the Flip 7, giving it a more contemporary look. Next to it, the Flip 7 FE appears like an older-generation model (I didn't want to use the word "outdated").

Yes, the Flip 7 finally gets an edge-to-edge cover screen that encapsulates the camera lenses and the LED flash module, with exceptionally thin bezels. The Flip 7 FE, on the other hand, gets the good old folder-shaped screen we've seen on the Flip 6.

The Flip 7 is slightly slimmer than its affordable counterpart. Its side profile measures 13.7 mm when folded and 6.5 mm when unfolded, whereas the Flip 7 FE measures 14.9 mm and 6.9 mm in the respective states. The difference in weight is even more minute, wherein the flagship clamshell weighs 188 grams, while the FE version weighs 187 grams.

Regarding materials, both the Flip 7 and the Flip 7 FE boast Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the cover screen and the back panel, along with an aluminum frame.

Interestingly, both phones also feature the same water and dust resistance rating: IP48. The flip phones can withstand damage from dust particles (greater than 1 mm) and immersion in freshwater up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

While the Flip 7 is available in colorways like Blue Shadow, Jet Black, Coral-red, and Mint, the Flip 7 FE is only available in black and white finishes.

Flip 7 FE Gets Smaller Screens

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Goodbye Snapdragon, Welcome Exynos

On the Flip 7, you get a 4.1-inch FlexWindow cover screen and a 6.85-inch (or a 6.9-inch) inner screen. While the former features a Super AMOLED panel that switches between 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rates, the latter comes with a Dynamic AMOLED 2x panel that supports an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz).

Despite featuring different panels, both the cover and foldable screen have a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Goodbye Snapdragon, Welcome Exynos

Compared to the Flip 7, the Flip 7 FE sports a smaller 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover screen and a 6.7-inch inner screen. While the cover screen supports a 60Hz refresh rate, the foldable display supports an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz) and 2,600 nits of peak brightness.

Given that Samsung doesn't mention the peak brightness of the Flip 7 FE's cover screen, I believe it's similar to the Flip 6's cover screen, which can shine as bright as 1,600 nits.

Exynos 2500 vs. Exynos 2400

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Goodbye Snapdragon, Welcome Exynos

Given that Samsung equips its Fold 7, the top-tier book-style foldable, with the overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, it makes sense to equip the Flip 7 with the same chipset, right?

To my surprise (and dismay), the Flip 7 ditches Qualcomm's most powerful chipset for the Exynos 2500 (3nm) chipset, which features a 3.3 GHz prime core, the Xclipse 950 GPU, and a new NPU that maxes out at 59 TOPS. With the new chip, you get 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

The Flip 7 FE is powered by the Exynos 2400 (4nm) chip (also seen on the S24 FE), which was unveiled in January 2024. The chipset comprises a 3.21 GHz prime core (part of a deca-core CPU), the Xclipse 940 GPU, and an NPU that maxes out at around 44 TOPS. Besides, you get 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Goodbye Snapdragon, Welcome Exynos

Comparing the benchmark scores of the chipsets, the Exynos 2500 scores 25% higher in the AnTuTu 10 benchmark than the Exynos 2400. A similar trend is observed on Geekbench 6, where the newer chip performs over 15% and 32% better in the single-core and multi-core CPU performance tests, respectively.

To summarize, the Flip 7 should handle demanding tasks, such as playing heavy video games, streaming 4K content, or editing 4K videos, better than the Flip 7 FE. The additional memory on the Flip 7 should also help with smooth multitasking.

While both chipsets support satellite connectivity, Samsung has only announced the feature for the Flip 7.

Both Foldables Get One UI 8.0

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Goodbye Snapdragon, Welcome Exynos

Both the Flip 7 and the Flip 7 FE run on Samsung's latest user interface based on Android 16: One UI 8.

It packs plenty of new features, including the Now Bar and Now Brief (borrowed from the Galaxy S25 series), natural language search, AI Select, as well as updates to system apps such as Samsung Health, Samsung Internet, My Files, and Quick Share.

Additionally, both phones come with the existing Galaxy AI features, which include Writing Assist, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, Live Translate, the dual-screen Interpreter feature, and Google's Gemini AI assistant, as well as Circle to Search.

In addition to the new features, the Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE will get seven years of operating system and security updates from Samsung (till 2032).

Flip 7 Shares Its Camera Sensors With the Flip 7 FE

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Goodbye Snapdragon, Welcome Exynos

If you compare the Flip 7's cameras to those of the Flip 7 FE (or the Flip 6, for that matter), you'll realize that all these phones offer the same camera setup. Samsung hasn't changed anything, right from the primary sensor and its aperture to the selfie shooter on the inner screen and its sensor size.

The Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE feature a 50MP (f/1.8, OIS) primary sensor, a 12MP (f/2.2, 123° field of view) ultrawide sensor, and a 10MP (f/2.2) front camera, all of which can record 4K videos at 60 fps.

In fact, both the flip phones share their AI-based photo editing features as well, including Audio Eraser, Auto Trim, Best Face, Photo Assist, Sketch to Image, Portrait Studio, and Live Effect.

Don't get me wrong: the camera setup should capture excellent pictures, and you have plenty of editing tools at your disposal. It's just that I expected Samsung to give the Flip 7's cameras a refresh, perhaps with a high-resolution ultrawide and selfie shooters.

What About Battery Life?

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Goodbye Snapdragon, Welcome Exynos

Thanks to Samsung, the Flip 7 now boasts a 4,300 mAh battery, which should significantly increase the time for which it lasts between charges. The Flip 7 FE, on the other hand, gets a 4,000 mAh battery (same as that on the Flip 6).

Both the phones support 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

Which Flip Phone Is Right for You?

Well, if you're looking for a full-fledged Samsung Flip phone with the thinnest chassis, a bigger cover screen, a more powerful chipset, and a larger battery, you can't go wrong with the Flip 7. However, the phone costs $1,099.99, which might be too much for some buyers.

However, if you're willing to give the flip-style phone a go but don't want to flip your wallet upside down, you can give the form factor a go with the Flip 7 FE. It packs a usable external screen, a decent chipset, and an all-day battery life (with moderate use).
