Prerequisites for Rooting

Before we begin, ensure your device is compatible with this rooting procedure. These are the Galaxy Note 2 models that will work:

• International (GT-N7100 / GT-N7105)
• AT&T (SGH-I317)
• T-Mobile (SGH-T889)
• Canadian models (starting with SGH-I317 or SGH-T889)

You can locate your model number under the battery or in "About Device" at the bottom of the "Settings" menu. If your device isn’t listed above, do not proceed with this rooting method. Chances are high that you could damage it.

Additionally, make sure to back up all your data prior to rooting, as there’s always a risk of losing information.

Rooting the Galaxy Note 2 (Windows)

First, put your device into download mode. Power it off, then press and hold the Volume Down Home Power buttons until you see the screen below.

Press the Volume Up button to proceed. This will bring you to ODIN download mode. Once you see the "Downloading..." screen, connect your Note 2 to your Windows PC via USB cable.

Note: At this stage, your device isn’t actually downloading anything. It simply indicates it has entered download mode successfully.

If you haven’t already, download and install the Samsung USB Drivers. Next, download and extract the GalaxyNote2Root.zip file. Launch the ODIN program by double-clicking the odin3 v1.85.exe application file.

In the ODIN interface, you should see a yellow ID:COM box with a random number inside. If it doesn’t appear, verify your Samsung USB drivers are properly installed, disconnect your Note 2, then reconnect it to your computer.

Without altering any other settings, click on PDA under Files [Download] and select the cwm6-root-note2.tar. file. Click Start. ODIN will then flash the custom CWM Recovery. A green "PASS!" box will confirm success.

After completion, your device will boot into ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery once to install the SuperUser app and its binaries. Reboot again.

Once your device has fully restarted, you’ll notice a new app named SuperSU.
