Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Brings Even More Power To Midrange Phones
May 17, 2025 am 06:03 AMOverview
- Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, equipped with a three-cluster CPU and a WQHD 144Hz camera.
- Features include Snapdragon Elite Gaming Suite, Snapdragon Sound Effect Technology, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.
- Although not available in the U.S., the chip will be used in mid-range phones that cost between $500 and $600.
The usually high-profile Snapdragon chips are the Snapdragon 8 series and the Snapdragon X series because they have the strongest performance. However, Qualcomm also makes chips for cheaper phones. The latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 has been released and you will soon see it on some of the best midrange phones later this year.
Qualcomm officially released the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, the latest SoC in its 7-series lineup. This is after the recently released Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, equipped with very good specs. It comes in a three-cluster CPU configuration, including a main core up to 2.8 GHz, three performance cores up to 2.4 GHz, and three efficiency cores up to 1.8 GHz. It supports cameras up to WQHD 144Hz, as well as 4K resolution on external displays, and can be equipped with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Thanks to its Spectra image processor, it also supports a variety of different camera configurations, as well as recording up to 4K@30fps.
Apart from actual hardware, Qualcomm emphasizes a lot here. First, the chip will include some of the features of Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming Suite, so this may be a very suitable chip for gaming, which is one of the reasons why people choose the 8 series. We have also introduced Snapdragon sound technology - Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 will be the first platform outside Qualcomm's high-end 8 series to support Qualcomm's extended personal area network (XPAN) technology. This is designed to provide a more immersive and diverse audio experience between your phone and compatible headphones/earphones/speakers by providing a more reliable connection.
The chip fully supports new technologies including Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, so if you decide to spend less, you won't be disconnected from the latest technologies - you'll just have slightly lower-end hardware. This chip is much more modest in specifications than the top Snapdragon 8 Elite in Qualcomm's current lineup, but it's also the chip that will be used for phones that cost up to $500 to $600.
