Insta360's X5 Action Camera is Finally Here (And Tougher Than Ever)
Apr 24, 2025 am 12:58 AMInsta360 X5: Upgraded 360° panoramic camera for better low-light shooting experience
Insta360 has launched its latest flagship 360° camera, the Insta360 X5. This camera has many exciting upgrades, including a larger sensor and a new triple AI chip, significantly improving shooting performance in low-light environments.
The X5 uses a larger 1/1.28-inch sensor than the predecessor X4. Insta360 says that the larger sensor combined with a new processing system called "triple AI chip" (which consists of a 5nm AI chip and two imaging chips) will significantly improve camera performance, especially in low-light conditions. The camera supports 360° video recording (30fps) at up to 8K resolution, while offering 5.7K (up to 60fps) and 4K (up to 120fps) resolution options.
The new "PureVideo" mode uses AI-based processing technology to achieve noise reduction and dynamic range optimization, especially for low-light shooting scenes. The HDR function of the camera has also been upgraded and supports 5.7K 60fps. In terms of still images, the X5 is able to take 360° photos of about 72 million pixels (11904x5952).
One of the highlights of the X5 is the interchangeable lens. The lens is made of new scratch-resistant glass material, extending the service life of the lens. Even if the lens is damaged, users can purchase the replacement lens components themselves to replace them, which is easier to operate than the previous X4 model.
The X5 has an IP68 waterproof rating and can be used at a depth of 15 meters underwater without the need for an additional submersible shell. The camera has a built-in multi-layer mesh design windshield, which can effectively reduce wind noise during recording and is supplemented by an upgraded audio processing algorithm. In terms of battery, the X5 is equipped with a 2400mAh battery. Insta360 claims it can provide up to 135 minutes of recording time at 5.7K/30fps, or up to 185 minutes of recording time in power-saving "endurance mode" of 5.7K/24fps. In addition, the battery also supports fast charging, and 80% of the battery can be fully charged in 20 minutes using a compatible charger.

In terms of software, X5 has added "InstaFrame mode". When this mode is enabled, the camera will record two files at the same time: a standard flat-scale video, which will automatically framing (follow the fixed direction or keep you in the field of view), for easy direct sharing; the other is a complete 360° video file, for easy post-refetching and editing. In addition, there are some new editing techniques, including one-click dedistortion function, to correct fisheye distortion.
The Insta360 X5 starts at $549.99, which is only $50 more expensive than the previous generation. In addition, an Essentials set is available for $659.99. Please visit the manufacturer's website for more information.
