Android 16 Beta 4: Stability and Performance Enhancements
Android 16 Beta 4, the final beta release, is now available, focusing on stability and performance improvements across various devices. This release incorporates the crucial April 2025 security patches, addressing critical vulnerabilities including two zero-day exploits. The update also marks the first beta build for the recently launched Pixel 9a.
Building on the platform stability achieved in Beta 3, this iteration refines existing features, addressing bugs and optimizing performance. Expect smoother animations, improved battery life, and fewer crashes. While Google may not detail every individual fix, beta testers are encouraged to report any remaining issues. The official announcement is anticipated to highlight key improvements.
A noteworthy, albeit subtle, change is the removal of the "Beta" label from the Themed Icons setting in the Wallpaper & Style app, suggesting Google considers this feature ready for the stable release. Interestingly, this change was previously implemented in Android 15 QPR2.
The stable Android 16 release is scheduled for June 2025, aligning with Google's Q2 2025 target. A potential early launch announcement at Google I/O in May remains a possibility. Pixel devices will receive the update first, followed by other manufacturers. The update is available now via OTA and factory images for eligible Pixel devices. Existing Android Beta Program participants can easily upgrade.
