Mikhail Parakhin, head of Microsoft Bing Search and Microsoft Advertising steps down
Jul 05, 2025 am 09:15 AMMikhail Parakhin is leaving his position as the head of Bing Search and Microsoft Advertising, potentially moving into a different role within the company. “Mikhail Parakhin, who leads the company’s Bing search engine and advertising divisions, will be exiting those roles to seek a new position, just a week after Microsoft appointed Mustafa Suleyman to lead consumer artificial intelligence initiatives and requested that Parakhin report to him,” according to a Bloomberg report.
Mustafa Suleyman. Last week, Microsoft revealed that Mustafa Suleyman, a co-founder of DeepMind—acquired by Google years ago—will now spearhead Microsoft’s AI initiatives as CEO of Microsoft AI. “Mustafa will serve as EVP and CEO of Microsoft AI and join the senior leadership team (SLT), reporting directly to me. I’ve known Mustafa for several years and have always respected him as a founder of both DeepMind and Inflection, as well as a visionary, product builder, and leader of pioneering teams that pursue ambitious goals,” said Satya Nadella, Microsoft's CEO.
Mikhail Parakhin. Mikhail Parakhin was expected to report to Mustafa Suleyman, but it appears that won’t happen now. Parakhin is stepping down from his leadership roles in Bing Search and Microsoft Advertising. An internal email obtained by The Verge states:
Mikhail Parakhin has decided to explore new opportunities. Satya and I are thankful for Mikhail’s contributions and leadership, and we appreciate all he has done to help Microsoft succeed in the new wave of AI. He will report to Kevin Scott while assisting with the WWE transition.
Parakhin was heavily involved in driving many of Microsoft’s recent AI advancements related to Bing Chat, now called Copilot, and its integration across Microsoft products such as Bing Search, Office, and other services and devices.
Why we care. With Parakhin stepping back, shifts in strategy for Bing Search and Microsoft Advertising may follow. It remains uncertain whether Parakhin will stay with Microsoft in another capacity or leave the company entirely.
Personally, I appreciated how open and approachable Parakhin was within the industry.
