Remove Dictation Button from Safari Address Bar on iPhone & iPad

You might have noticed a microphone button in the address bar of Safari on iPhone or iPad, and tapping this microphone icon activates dictation, which converts your voice into text.

Some users may unintentionally tap the microphone dictation button in Safari on iPhone or iPad, and may therefore wish to disable and remove the dictation button from Safari on their device.

However, removing the microphone button in the Safari search bar isn't as straightforward as you might expect, because doing so also requires disabling Siri and the dictation feature. Whether or not you're comfortable with that is up to you, but here's how it works.

How to Remove the Microphone / Dictation Button in Safari Address Bar on iPhone & iPad

Removing the microphone dictation button involves turning off Siri and dictation features system-wide:

  1. Launch the “Settings” app
  2. Navigate to “Screen Time”
  3. Tap on “Content & Privacy Restrictions”
  4. Select “Allowed Apps”
  5. Choose “Disable Siri & Dictation”

Once completed, the dictation microphone button will no longer appear in the Safari address/search/URL bar on iPhone or iPad.

At the moment, there’s no way to remove the dictation buttons from Safari without simultaneously disabling Siri and dictation elsewhere on the device, but if you don’t use those functions, you likely won’t miss them. Bear in mind that this isn’t the only method for disabling Siri if you don’t use the voice assistant, but based on current knowledge, this is the only way to get rid of the microphone button in Safari and the Messages app.

If you’re aware of another way to remove or disable the dictation microphone buttons in iOS and iPadOS, feel free to share it in the comments!
