Your iPad can function as a convenient fitness companion, even though it wasn't specifically designed for that purpose like the Apple Watch was. However, thanks to Stage Manager, you can effortlessly multitask on the iPad by keeping several apps visible simultaneously. If you pick apps for Stage Manager that support your workout or fitness regimen, you essentially create a compact control panel for exercising, which is quite effective!
The process is straightforward: first, enable Stage Manager on your iPad, then launch the fitness or exercise apps you intend to use during your workout, arranging them according to your preferences.
For instance, you might have a YouTube fitness video playing in one Stage Manager window, a timer in another, and Apple’s Fitness videos in yet another (if you’re okay with subscribing to the monthly service for access to Fitness ).
Alternatively, like my own workout configuration, I keep one window for podcasts I listen to while exercising (typically in Spotify or Overcast apps), another for a manual lap timer using the built-in Clock app, and a third for an interval timer app (I use a straightforward boxing timer/HIIT app set for 3-minute bursts with 1-minute rests, repeated over 10-12 rounds).
Similarly, a friend of mine, who uses a comparable setup but on their Mac, opens windows for movies/videos, a timer, and the Notes app for logging details and progress. As with many aspects of technology, adapt it to suit your needs.
Stage Manager simplifies this on the iPad, but you can achieve the same setup on a Mac, whether or not Stage Manager is enabled.
There’s no shortage of online resources and apps to kickstart your exercise journey, but here are some suggestions to consider:
- Free fitness videos on YouTube
- Overcast podcast app for iPad and iPhone
- Spotify (available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, web, etc.)
- HIIT timer for iPhone/iPad
- Dr Peter Attia’s Drive podcast – focused on fitness and health, featuring lengthy discussions and deep dives
- Huberman Lab podcast – centered on fitness, health, and science, offering long-form lectures and interviews
- Lex Fridman podcast – broad intellectual interest podcast, featuring long-form discussions
- JRE podcast – general interest podcast covering humor to science, in a long-form discussion format
- Foundational Fitness Protocol from Huberman Lab
These are just a few starting points, and these podcasts alone provide extensive knowledge about health, fitness, and the human body.
Prior to setting this up on my iPad, I used my iPhone for the same purpose, frequently switching between podcasts, the Clock timer, and a HIIT interval tracker. With Stage Manager, I now display all three apps on the screen simultaneously, streamlining my workouts.

iPhone does not support creating contact groups directly in the address book application, but similar functions can be achieved through the following methods: 1. Use the "Group" function in the address book application, click "Edit" > "Add Group" to create a custom group; 2. Add each contact to the corresponding group by editing it; 3. If you need to send a group message, you can create a new multi-person conversation in the information application; 4. Use iCloud or Gmail to synchronize tagged groups to facilitate the management of a large number of contacts on the computer. These methods are used in conjunction with efficient management of contact groups.
