Apple has unveiled iOS 18, the latest major update for iPhone system software, introducing a range of new features, design enhancements, and modifications. iOS 18 offers new customization options for home screen icons, including Dark Mode icons with color tinting, the flexibility to arrange icons and widgets freely on the Home Screen, a customizable Control Center, AI-powered features under the banner of Apple Intelligence for writing and text summarization, a standalone Passwords app, new functionalities in Messages such as any Emoji tapback, a revamped Photos app, and much more.
iOS 18 was showcased at WWDC 2024, along with MacOS Sequoia, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and visionOS 2.
Home Screen Customizations
iOS 18 brings significant enhancements to Home Screen customization, allowing users to freely position icons or widgets anywhere on the Home Screen.
It also introduces new Dark Mode icons:
Furthermore, there's an icon color tinting effect, enabling you to apply a color hue to all your icons and widgets.
These new customization options allow for a more personalized and unique Home Screen experience than ever before.
Control Center Redesign

Apple Intelligence AI
iOS 18 includes numerous new features under Apple Intelligence, Apple's AI initiative. Apple Intelligence provides writing tools to help rewrite text in various tones like friendly or professional, summarize text, proofread, and more. It also includes an Image Playground feature for creating images.
The Apple Intelligence AI toolkit is accessible wherever you can type on your iPhone, including in Pages, Mail, Notes, and third-party apps.

Safari Updates with AI
Safari now features new AI-assisted capabilities that allow for quick summarization of web pages.
Reader Mode in Safari has been enhanced with automatically generated summaries and a table of contents.

iOS 18 offers numerous other features for iPhone, including the ability to lock apps with Face ID, hide apps on your device, change lock screen icons, type to Siri more easily, access national park hiking trails through Maps, gaming enhancements with Game Mode, and more.
iPadOS 18 has most of the same features, plus a Calculator app
iPadOS 18 was also introduced at WWDC 2024, incorporating nearly all the new features from iOS 18 for iPhone, but tailored for iPad.
A notable addition unique to iPadOS 18 is the new Calculator app, which has been eagerly awaited since the iPad's debut fourteen years ago, eliminating the need to use Spotlight for calculations.
