The latest Android build of Edge Canary introduces several enhancements focused on tab management and usability. Previously, the stable release didn’t support tab archiving or inactivity settings, but these could soon become standard features.

Browser enthusiast Leopeva64 has been monitoring Edge’s evolving features, and now these updates have appeared in Edge Canary for Android version 134. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new.

1. Tab inactivity and automatic archiving

While desktop users have long enjoyed the ability to automatically archive inactive tabs, mobile users were left out—until now. Two new experimental flags have been added: “Android Tab Declutter” and “Archive all tabs except active.” After enabling both and restarting the browser, a new “Tabs” section appears under General settings.

As seen in the image above, users can now set the browser to automatically move inactive tabs to an archived state. Available time intervals include:

• Never
• After 7 days
• After 14 days
• After 21 days

Underneath, there's an option labeled “Archive duplicate tabs,” which automatically identifies and archives repeated tabs to reduce clutter.

Additionally, a “Close after 60 days” option ensures that archived tabs are automatically removed after two months. While functional, a customizable duration via a slider would offer more flexibility, as 60 days may be excessive for some.

You can also reach this settings menu by tapping the Tab icon in the browser and selecting the Inactive tabs option.

2. AI-driven autofill functionality

Edge’s machine learning-powered autofill, previously limited to desktop, is now making its way to the Android Canary build. This feature intelligently suggests personal information when filling out online forms.

To enable or disable it, head to the Addresses and more section and toggle the “Enable machine learning powered autofill suggestions” setting.

3. Redesigned PDF experience with toolbar

Although Edge for mobile supports PDF previews and text extraction, it has lacked a dedicated toolbar for related actions. This version attempts to resolve that with the “PDF toolbar in the tab” flag.

Despite multiple attempts, we couldn’t activate the toolbar in our testing. However, screenshots from Leo indicate that once enabled, it adds Print, Download, and Search buttons alongside the existing Share option.

Another visual tweak in this release is a transparent navigation bar, which now extends across various settings screens. These experimental improvements can be tested by enabling the relevant flags in the browser’s Experimental features menu.
