Manor Lords developer Slavic Magic has shared new details about an upcoming patch for the early access strategy title, describing it as a massive overhaul that's touching "a lot of systems at once".

Manor Lords remains one of the most anticipated early access games right now, and its popularity is undeniable—having surpassed 2.5 million copies sold in under a year. The last major update dropped in January, introducing new maps and the ability to construct bridges. Since then, the team has stayed quiet, aside from a brief blog note confirming that a major update was in development.

Greg Styczeń, the solo dev behind Slavic Magic, has now published a detailed blog post explaining the lengthy delay: "I know the wait has been long, and the reason is straightforward—we're rebuilding core systems all at once. This isn’t just about adding one or two features. It’s a complete rework of how buildings, production chains, and environmental interactions operate. Because these changes are so deep, we couldn’t release smaller updates in the meantime—they’d only cause conflicts or break things still in progress."

The upcoming patch introduces a new Affinity system designed to add deeper strategic layers to town planning. Buildings will now be tied to specific environmental types and can synergize with nearby structures. Some will even provide bonuses to others. For instance: "Apiaries will enhance the Pollination Orchard benefits already provided by Meadows."

But it’s not just about placement—your actions in the world matter too. "When you cut down forests, your Woodland affinities will gradually vanish. So if your economy relies on forest-based production, you’ll need to manage your woodland resources more carefully."

Styczeń also confirms the arrival of a brand-new map called Divided, featuring two distinct regions separated by a mountain range. The update will also bring see-through fortifications, updated building cards, and various visual improvements—all of which are previewed in the official blog post detailing the changes.

Looking ahead, Styczeń promises a shift in development rhythm: "Once this update launches, we’ll move toward smaller, more frequent patches." That means fans likely won’t face such a long wait between updates again. "That’s our goal now, and we’re putting in the effort to make the wait worthwhile."
