ForbesToday’s Wordle #1500 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, July 27th
By Erik Kain
How To Solve Today’s Wordle
Wow—Wordle #1500 is here! A nice round milestone. We’re inching closer to the three-quarter mark of the full NYT Wordle answer list, though we’re not quite there yet. With around 2,300 total puzzles, the 75% milestone will arrive at Wordle #1725—about 225 days from now, on March 10th, 2026. That date will sneak up faster than you think! Consider this my early warning: watch out for the Ides of March. But no need to panic—after all, it’s still summer 2025. All is well. Let’s dive into today’s puzzle.
How To Play Wordle
Wordle is a daily word game where you have six attempts to guess a secret five-letter word. After each guess, the game gives color-coded feedback:
- Green: Correct letter in the correct position.
- Yellow: Letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
- Gray: Letter isn’t in the word at all.
Use these clues to refine your next guesses. Everyone worldwide solves the same puzzle each day, making it a shared brain teaser. Some players also enjoy Competitive Wordle—challenging friends, family, or even the Wordle Bot (or me!). Check the Competitive Wordle rules at the end of this article.
Today’s Wordle Hints And Answer
Wordle Bot’s Starting Word: SLATE
My Starting Word Today: CLOUT (left me with 666 possible words—spooky, right?)
Hint: To understand or be good at something.
Clue: This answer contains a repeated letter.

Wordle Analysis
I always use Wordle Bot to review my performance—it’s a great tool for improving your strategy. You can analyze your own games with Wordle Bot too.
CLOUT was a terrible first guess today, narrowing it down to 666 possible answers—talk about ominous. My next guess, BRAIN, only reduced it to 64 options. Not great. Then SPEAK helped a lot, bringing it down to just three: SAVVY, SAGGY, and SASSY. I only considered SAVVY and SASSY, and I ruled out SASSY because having three of the same letter felt unlikely. Lucky for me, SAVVY was correct!
Competitive Wordle Score
Same result as yesterday: I guessed in four tries, earning 0 points, and lost to the Bot, costing me another point. The Bot scored 1 point for solving in three and an extra point for beating me. It now leads our close July matchup:
Erik: 8 points
Wordle Bot: 9 points
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Solve in 1: 3 points
- Solve in 2: 2 points
- Solve in 3: 1 point
- Solve in 4: 0 points
- Solve in 5: -1 point
- Solve in 6: -2 points
- Miss the word: -3 points
- Beat your opponent: 1 point
- Tie: 0 points
- Lose: -1 point
- Total your points each day.
- Bonus: Fridays are 2XP—double all points (positive or negative)!
- Track a running score or play fresh daily. Have fun!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word savvy traces back to the West Indian Creole word sabi, meaning "to know," which comes from the Portuguese and Spanish verb saber—also meaning "to know." These originate from the Latin sapere, meaning "to be wise" or "to have taste." So when you say someone’s "savvy," you’re calling them wise—just with a linguistic journey spanning continents and centuries.
