Another day, another Mini Crossword to tackle! Saturdays typically bring the week's most challenging puzzles, yet the New York Times drops the Sunday crossword on Saturday afternoon—giving solvers even less time to conquer the toughest grid of the week. It’s an odd tradition, but we embrace it. Not our job to question—it’s our job to solve. Let’s dive into today’s Mini!
The NYT Mini is a compact, fast-paced alternative to the full-sized NYT Crossword. More approachable and quicker to finish, it’s completely free to play without needing a Times subscription. You can enjoy it online or through the app, though accessing past puzzles requires the app.
Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Across
1A. In addition – ALSO
5A. Psithurism, n. “The sound of ___ rustling through the trees” – WIND
6A. Like scones and stoners – BAKED
7A. Retail chain with an average store size of 300,000 square feet – IKEA
8A. Work station – DESK
Down
1D. Up – AWAKE
2D. Social media currency – LIKES
3D. Tiptoe around – SKIRT
4D. Like 2025, but not 2026 – ODD
6D. Contractor’s offer – BID
I almost went with PLUS for 1-Across, which could’ve caused issues later since both ALSO and PLUS start with A and share the L—potentially throwing off the Down clues. But I switched to ALSO early, which helped everything fall into place. WIND was obvious for 5-Across, then I filled in AWAKE (yes, “up” can mean awake), LIKES (the ever-present social media metric), SKIRT, and ODD (since 2025 is an odd-numbered year). That left DESK, IKEA, and finally BAKED—tying together scones and, well, stoners. Solved in 1:03 today—pretty smooth ride.
