I Didn't See it Coming, but I Now Live in a Samsung Galaxy Household
Jul 26, 2025 am 01:08 AMMy wife and I don’t have a special preference for Samsung, but in just over a year, our homes were almost full of Galaxy devices and Samsung appliances. Here is how this all happened.
The charm of the folding screen is irreplaceable
I was the initiator of this transition, so start with my first Samsung device: the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Few devices have revolutionized my life as completely as it does.
The functions of a book-style folding phone like Samsung are far more than calling. It can be transformed into tablets, e-book readers, digital notebooks, and even gaming consoles, with so many uses that it can't count. But what really attracted me was its built-in Samsung DeX feature - I was eager to have a phone that could be used as a full PC.
I bought this refurbished machine for half price, and less than a year later, I bought the Z Fold 6, which is almost brand new at the same discount (in fact, the folding screen is not as expensive as you think). My wife originally used a Google Pixel 7, but after seeing the huge screen space I had when I read e-books and browsing web pages, I started to feel excited. In the end, the Z Fold 5 became her main phone, and now we both use Samsung's foldable screen phones.

I used to be a Linux user who loves tossing technology, but now as a parent, I have a great responsibility. I no longer need fancy functions, just to ensure the system is stable and efficient.
To be honest, Android can meet all my needs, and Samsung customized version is the best among them. Samsung DeX is the most mature Android desktop environment at present.
Samsung My Files experience is comparable to a desktop file manager, and some designs make me faster; Samsung Gallery has almost all the photo management features I want; Samsung Internet is an unexpectedly powerful and customizable browser; Samsung Smart Switch makes data migration of old devices easy and easy. Compared to those Google applications that focus on cloud synchronization, I prefer these localization tools that Samsung comes with.

What is more worth mentioning about is the degree of personalization. Many years ago, Samsung poached the core developers of the CyanogenMod team and directly integrated the reasons why users like flashing the machine - rich customization options - into the system. This tradition continues to this day. Just adjust a few settings to make the One UI completely different, and after installing the Good Lock kit, almost every interface detail can be adjusted to your heart's heart.Samsung tablet: the only seedling in the Android camp
More than ten years ago, Android tablets bloomed everywhere, but later they gradually disappeared. Google and other manufacturers have withdrawn from the market one after another, but Samsung has persisted. Although Lenovo and OnePlus are trying to catch up now, Samsung is still the first choice if it wants to get a high-end experience and long-term software updates.

Apart from OnePlus, it's close - it's a pity that it has only one product.
10 So when my wife needed to replace the old iPad for work, she did not choose a new iPad (she always thought the iPad was difficult to use), but instead bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10. It combines the flexibility of a tablet and the productivity of a PC, just meets our daily office needs. ##### Samsung Galaxy Tab S10

My Galaxy Z Fold 6 supports S Pen, which is not even possible with the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Another folding screen in the US market, OnePlus Open, also supports stylus, must be purchased overseas and lacks exclusive software optimization. Samsung Notes, by contrast, is probably Samsung's best native app, and I can't live without it.

I even stocked up a few spare S Pens just in case.
5 Not only is Samsung Notes easy to use, but it is very convenient to post screenshots to Slack; virtual keyboard gesture input is extremely efficient; facing the small menus that are difficult to operate with fingers on the web, S Pen can handle it with a slight click. This pen has become my core tool for using my mobile phone to complete professional work. Because of this, I was simply a crash when I heard that the next generation Z Fold 7 canceled the S Pen slot.
Hardware support is long and easy to repair
Samsung offers the industry's longest software update cycle, even longer than Apple (although we have to see if they fulfill their promises). I can buy a tablet for my children with confidence, knowing that system support will cover their entire childhood.
As family members increase, so does the number of equipment in the home. I don't plan to replace a batch of new devices every two years, nor do I want to let a bunch of old hardware be idle in the Internet. So when my son accidentally broke the Lenovo tablet, I changed him to a Galaxy A9, and this time I specially purchased a protection plan.
This is also the experience after becoming a parent: as long as the child can encounter a place, he will always find ways to ruin it. They broke the screen, sprinkled juice on the keyboard, loosened the USB-C port, and removed the keys. Now when the clerk asked me if I wanted to buy additional warranty service, I learned to answer only one word: Buy!
Even if you don’t buy a protection plan, Samsung’s products have rich repair channels. Best Buy, UBreakIFix or local repair shops can all be done, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to find a place to repair it.
Home appliances can also be seamlessly linked
We are gradually building smart homes, and the first ones we joined were two Samsung home appliances. The developer provided a Samsung refrigerator as one of the options when building the house, and we chose it based on the appearance. Later, when my wife's company rewarded a Samsung The Frame TV, we realized that it could serve as a SmartThings hub to control other IoT devices and remotely manage the refrigerator through mobile phones and TVs.
When changing the dishwasher, we also chose the Samsung model, which is consistent with the refrigerator style and can also be connected to SmartThings. Although the washer and dryer are not Samsung's, if we want to replace it now, we will give priority to Samsung, just for that seamless integration experience.

The gimmick that used to be has now become a necessity.
Do I really like to let a company take over all the home appliances? Actually, it is not the case. But before the Matter protocol becomes more popular, it is better to continue to trust Samsung instead of giving up these conveniences.
