Today's NYT Strands Puzzle: Hints, Spangram And Answers For Saturday, July 19th
Jul 23, 2025 am 12:31 AMForbesNYT ‘Strands’ Hints, Spangram And Answers For Friday, July 18By Paul Tassi
It’s Saturday at last and I, beloved Strandistrians, am back! I’ve been away for the past two weeks while my colleagues Kris Holt and Paul Tassi handled these Strands guides, but now I’m here again. And ready to go all out! Let’s discover some words!
Strands is the latest offering from the New York Times’ collection of puzzle games. It presents a refreshing take on traditional word searches. Each day we’re given a fresh theme and challenged with finding all the words on the grid that align with that theme, including a spangram that connects two sides of the puzzle. One of these words is the spangram, which stretches from one edge of the grid to the opposite and further highlights the day’s theme.
Spoilers ahead.
Today’s Strands Hints
Explore below for today’s theme and some clues to assist you in uncovering today’s words. Instead of providing the first two letters of each word, today I’m offering three hints instead of two.
Today’s Theme: Hot enough for ya?
Hint: Words that depict warm locations, particularly this time of year.
Clue: Hot is putting it lightly.
Here are the first two letters of each word:
- BA
- SC
- MU
- ST
- SW
- SU
Keep in mind, spoilers follow!
What Are Today’s Strands Answers?
Today’s spangram is: SUMMERWEATHER
Here’s the complete list of words:
- BALMY
- SCORCHING
- MUGGY
- STICKY
- SWELTERING
Here’s the completed Strands grid:
Today’s Strands Breakdown
I recently came back from a trip to Phoenix, AZ, so the theme “hot enough for ya?” is quite fitting. Naturally, Phoenix isn’t MUGGY at all. I wouldn’t use the word BALMY to describe that desert city either. STICKY? Definitely. SCORCHING? Without a doubt. SWELTERING? That’s spot on. But with a swimming pool, it’s also quite enjoyable. Not to mention the air-conditioning. This was a fairly simple Strands challenge.
