Following the latest patch that erased player progress, Dune Awakening developer Funcom has pledged compensation. In a July 9 post on X (formerly Twitter), the team announced they're actively addressing the problem and provided further details via their official site.

The July 7 update altered the Deep Desert layout but unintentionally enabled PvP in an area meant to remain PvE. This led to many players losing bases and equipment, causing frustration across the community.

Funcom clarified that this change was originally scheduled for the next Coriolis Cycle and apologized for the disruption. The studio is now working to restore lost vehicles and items as best as possible, with replacements expected to appear in the ‘Claim Rewards’ tab by week's end.

They also noted that tools are being refined to better identify and reimburse losses, though support requests are currently backed up. “We’re prioritizing reopened tickets from around launch when reimbursements weren’t fully available,” the developers added.

Players who lost vehicles due to bugs can submit an in-game support ticket specifying the vehicle type, tier, and how it was lost. Funcom confirmed that engineers are targeting root causes behind item loss related to server crashes, disconnects, map transitions, and mesh transfers.

Despite these setbacks, the game continues to receive strong support, reflected in its "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam. Game8 gave Dune Awakening a score of 74 out of 100, praising its immersive survival gameplay in a massive open world. In addition to resolving base and vehicle losses, Funcom is preparing additional fixes aimed at various parts of the game. One of the top priorities is tackling known exploits involving cheat engines, client-side hacks, and abuse of in-game mechanics.

The developers stated, “We have zero tolerance for actions that disrupt other players' experiences. We’re committed to ensuring the game functions as intended. If you spot cheating or unfair play, please use the reporting tools to alert us.”

So far, hundreds of players using exploitable tactics have been penalized, with more bans expected as investigations continue. Among the issues addressed so far are account spoofing, unauthorized vehicle takeovers, boosted damage attacks, and instant-kill exploits.

To help maintain fairness, a specialized team has been assigned to strengthen the game’s security framework. Future updates will include additional preventive measures and system adjustments.

As part of ongoing improvements, a hotfix is scheduled for release on July 10 at 10:00 AM CEST / 8:00 UTC. Server downtime is expected to last approximately 90 minutes, and official patch notes will be published once the update goes live. Many players hope this patch will resolve remaining concerns over lost items and unfair gameplay.
