You've reached the middle of the week, so it's almost time for the weekend! Here’s your Connections answer for 10th July.
If you're unfamiliar with the game, Connections asks players to categorize a set of 16 words into four groups based on shared themes or links. These connections might be related meanings, parts of common phrases, objects found in certain places, or even something more abstract!
While it may appear simple at first glance, each group has a different level of difficulty—ranging from Yellow (easiest) to Purple (hardest). That means today's puzzle could be a bit challenging. You might spot one category immediately, while another leaves you puzzled. Don’t worry—we’ve got the solution ready below.
Connections was initially developed during The New York Times' annual game jam and launched as a beta version in June 2023. Since then, it's grown into one of the most played games on The NYTimes website, second only to Wordle. Some have even drawn comparisons to the BBC quiz show Only Connect...
Hints for Today's Connections Puzzle
Let’s start with some hints before revealing the full answer:
- Yellow: Things that are part of something that spins.
- Green: Related to military uniforms.
- Blue: Used to move air in various ways.
- Purple: Words meaning to fail to seize an opportunity.
- One word in Blue can have multiple interpretations, but focus on how it functions for this group.
Keep in mind: Yellow is typically the easiest, followed by Green and Blue, with Purple being the trickiest.
Connections Words for 10th July
Here are the 16 words featured in today’s puzzle:
Drab | Blow | Misss | Spoke |
Tire | Duct | Waste | Fatigue |
Exhaust | Rim | Khabi | Hose |
Lose | Pipe | Hub | Camo |
Try to match them using the hints above before checking the solution below.
Today's Connections Answer Breakdown
Here's the complete grouping for today’s puzzle:
- Parts of a Wheel: Hub, Rim, Spoke, Tire
- Military Clothing Terms: Camo, Drab, Fatigue, Khaki
- Air-moving Equipment: Duct, Exhaust, Hose, Pipe
- Fail to Seize Opportunities: Blow, Lose, Miss, Waste
I found Green easier to solve than Yellow today, but after some elimination and reconsideration, the rest came together without too much trouble. This one definitely had me thinking more than earlier puzzles!
What to Play After Connections?
The natural next step is Wordle, but if you've already completed that, The NYTimes offers several other great games. For word lovers, there’s the Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, and Strands (still in beta). If you'd prefer something visual, try Tiles—a matching game—or go classic with Sudoku.
Outside The NYTimes, Semantle challenges you to guess a hidden word based on semantic similarity rather than spelling. Another fun option is Puzzgrid, which features hundreds of Connections-style puzzles with a three-minute time limit.
(And don’t forget you can always watch Only Connect on BBC iPlayer...)
If you're feeling like reading more, we've previously explored why The NYTimes Mini Crossword is such a delight and sat down with Jonathan Knight, Head of Games at The NYTimes.
Good luck with today’s Connections puzzle!
