I truly love movies, I really do. But until this week, I hadn’t been to the cinema since January, when I saw the re-release of Spirited Away on the big screen. That changed when I saw the very enjoyable 28 Years Later a couple of days ago. I didn’t learn too much about the movie before going in (the best way to experience a film, I reckon) though I’ve long been a fan of the first entry in the series, 28 Days Later.

I almost forgot how nice it is to just pay attention to a film and not be tempted to check my phone every five minutes. Plus that absolutely wild ending to 28 Years Later would not have hit the same if I had seen it for the first time by myself at home. I ought to go to the movies more often.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, July 10 are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT’s website or Games app.

You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

I almost fell for a red herring by lumping TIRE in with EXHAUST and FATIGUE, but I sidestepped that and got the yellows first. However, I did fall into a trap by pairing together EXHAUST, BLOW, MISS and LOSE. That put me one away from a group.

There were too many other potential ways to trip up by continuing to go down that route, so I looked elsewhere. FATIGUE, KHAKI and CAMO went together quite neatly. It took me a while to remember that DRAB would work with them to give me the greens.

After that, the blues jumped out at me. That left the purples, for which I did deduce the connection, for a 135th victory in a row.

That purple group wasn’t too difficult. Here's my grid for today:
