Introduction and Analysis

NVIDIA has launched its new RTX 5060 at a base price of $299 USD, with availability now live across retailers and prebuilt PCs just as reviews begin to surface. Alongside it comes the RTX 5060 Ti, which is available in both 8 GB and 16 GB variants. The standard RTX 5060 was initially unveiled back in April but was delayed slightly to better coordinate logistics and promotional strategies—likely timed for maximum impact ahead of Computex Taipei’s opening on May 20. Inside, the RTX 5060 shares the same GB206 chip as the Ti model but deactivates six out of the total 36 streaming multiprocessors. This results in 3,840 CUDA cores, 120 Tensor cores, 30 RT cores, 120 texture units, and 48 ROPs, with a boost clock that can reach up to 2.50 GHz. It features 8 GB of GDDR7 memory running at 28 Gbps over a 128-bit bus, all within a 145 W total graphics power (TGP) limit—down from the Ti’s 180 W. Most designs will rely on a single 8-pin power connector, though some may even opt for a 6-pin setup. For gamers, the RTX 5060 is designed to deliver solid 1080p performance at high settings, and manageable light 1440p workloads, without drawing as much power as more powerful cards. The 8 GB GDDR7 setup is sufficient for today’s games at those resolutions, while the lower power consumption simplifies PCB design and cooling, potentially helping to keep costs low. In short, it’s built to balance performance, efficiency, and affordability. On the market side, AMD is expected to launch the Radeon RX 9060 XT around the same time, giving midrange GPU buyers a clear choice between two contenders.

In terms of connectivity, the card offers three DisplayPort 2.1b ports and one HDMI 2.1b port, making it flexible enough for multi-monitor configurations—ideal for both content creators requiring extended desktop space and gamers looking for immersive, wide-angle gameplay. It also supports DirectX 12 Ultimate, OpenGL 4.6, and NVIDIA G-SYNC. For this review, we tested the MSI Gaming OC variant, which hits a Boost frequency of 2625 MHz, compared to the reference model’s slightly lower boost just above 2.5 GHz.
