What's The Future For Humans As AI Advances? Forbes AI 50 Weigh In
Jun 26, 2025 am 11:14 AM"Instead of feeling like you have just one career path, why not pursue two or three completely different ones? You can do things you didn’t have time for in your first career by using the relationships you’ve built and the creative energy you can now give back to the community," she said. "AI will complement and enable people to explore different career paths they may never have considered before."
Alan Ghelberg, chief financial officer of Harvey, a legal AI startup that recently raised $300 million at a $500 billion valuation, shared similar views.
"I think there’s going to be a lot more time to create new things in day-to-day life. More time for fitness and family as well." He also mentioned that if we live longer, we’ll have more time to become wiser.
Meanwhile, Gen Z is experiencing burnout from the daily grind and has started to master the concept of micro-retirements. They are taking mental health gap years to recharge and reassess the job market to find meaningful and rewarding work as AI reshapes the economy. Challenging the traditional idea of continuous work until retirement age, they prioritize work-life balance with the mindset that they can work indefinitely as long as they take regular breaks.
To future-proof themselves, they're developing physical skills that AI and robotics haven't mastered yet—such as construction, electrical work, and plumbing—which require dexterity robots currently lack.
However, with Forbes AI 50 honoree Figure AI aiming to build robots capable of performing any job humans can do, AI is optimizing to fill roles previously held by humans. Even Equinox has begun replacing massage therapists with Aescape’s massage robot. So where does this leave the rest of us—training to become ballet dancers?
Randall Lane, chief creative officer of Forbes and creator of the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, spoke to the audience of Forbes AI 50 honorees. "If you look at the assembly line, mainframe computers, personal computers, even the Internet and mobile smartphones, you didn’t realize you were living through an era of incredible societal and business change until years later," he explained. This is the first time in human history that we are aware in real time that we’re creating disruptive technological change as it unfolds.
"This is a very powerful technology," he told me. "We need to stay optimistic. It will boost productivity and create new jobs. I believe our next step is figuring out how to use this opportunity to build a better world rather than a dangerous one."
