How To Unlock The Music Player

After arriving in Australia, once you step through the plate gate, you'll complete a few short missions to help establish the Chiral Network in the region. These include deliveries to the Lone Commander, Government Base, Western Observatory, and a person referred to only as 'The Musician', who is actually Gen Hoshino, a well-known Japanese artist. It seems likely that Kojima is a fan.

To recruit The Musician, you need to advance through the main story until Fragile proposes chasing down a new main order from the DHV Magellan called “Destroy The Communications Disruptor and Deliver The Mysterious Recording To The Musician.” This mission involves Sam infiltrating an enemy camp and climbing a nearby mountain range.

If you've already been exploring this early part of the map, it's possible you’ve already destroyed the communications disruptor by chance. If that’s the case, you’ll be sent directly to The Musician’s location.

You can locate the small bandit camp north of the Western Environmental Observatory. If a road has already spawned in your world, follow it until you spot the camp on your right; otherwise, stay along the left side of the mountains as you leave the observatory until you eventually come across it.

Keep in mind that the camp is heavily guarded with patrolling enemies, and another one watches over the area from a watchtower. The disruptor itself is located in the northern part of the camp and can be hacked and destroyed.

Once that’s done, your next task is to head further north and climb the rocky mountains where The Musician resides. You’ll know you're getting close when a song by Gen Hoshino starts playing in the background.

You can either climb the mountain manually or use a tri-cruiser along a path that’s usually marked by speed boosts, generators, and timefall shelters left behind by other players.

Upon reaching the outpost and completing your delivery, The Musician will connect to the chiral network and reward Sam with the music player.

However, this isn't an item that appears in your inventory—it simply unlocks a new option in the pause menu. Open the menu and you’ll get a quick tutorial explaining how to play songs and build playlists for future deliveries. Don’t be shy—sing along when nobody’s around.
