Most status effects work well on this creature but don't bother with Poison. Flash Pods, Pitfall Traps and Shock Traps are all effective too - especially if you want to plan your next move.

Also, watch your back because we've found that when you fight a Rathian and inflict enough damage on it, a Rathalos will appear and start to attack you to protect them. We found the best way around this was to fire Dung Pods or Large Dung Pods at the Rathian to split them up, or to keep riding around on your Seikret to attack the Rathian until it splits off.
