Samsung's One UI 7 Has Changed How I Feel About Default Android Launchers
Apr 08, 2025 am 12:59 AMI've always used alternative launchers on my Android phones. But Samsung's One UI 7, now rolling out to Galaxy devices, is the first I actually love. Android's customizable home screen has always been a key draw, but One UI 7's attention to detail is so impressive, I'm sticking with the default launcher.
Fluid Animations: A Visual Delight
One UI 7's animations are incredibly smooth. App icons seamlessly expand into fullscreen windows, and gracefully shrink back down when you return to the home screen. This fluidity extends to widgets, quick settings, and even the volume control. While Google Pixel phones have long excelled in this area, Samsung has truly surpassed expectations with One UI 7.
Redesigned Icons: A Fresh Look
The updated icons (shown above in my Samsung DeX desktop dock) are a significant improvement. App icons are often a reason to switch launchers, but Samsung's first-party icons are now visually appealing and consistent. While third-party app icons remain outside of Samsung's control, the overall improvement is noticeable.

Larger App Folders: Enhanced Usability
App folders can now be enlarged, transforming them into widgets displaying multiple app icons. This allows for quicker access to frequently used apps without the extra step of opening the folder first.
Redesigned Taskbar: A Refined Experience
On my Galaxy Z Fold 6, the taskbar has been redesigned. Instead of a persistent bottom bar, it's now accessed via an upward swipe, similar to Samsung's edge panels but at the bottom of the screen.
I find this new dock more aesthetically pleasing and intuitive.

I've been a long-time user of Niagara Launcher and Nova Launcher, even experimenting with minimalist launchers like Kvaesitso. It's surprising, but I'm genuinely happy using Samsung's default launcher this time. The seamless integration across my phone, DeX desktop, and even my Frame TV showcases the cohesive design of One UI 7.
