Nscale, a London-founded AI infrastructure firm spun out from former crypto mining operation Arkon Energy, has received a $700 million investment from Nvidia to fast-track the construction of next-generation, hyperscale data centers.

This funding positions Nscale at the heart of the UK’s ambition to become a leading global AI powerhouse—a goal increasingly backed by major tech players. Google, for instance, recently pledged $6.8 billion toward similar objectives.

The deal with Nvidia is part of a wider strategic alliance involving Nscale, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Nvidia, aimed at transforming the UK’s technological landscape.

UK’s premier AI supercomputer in the making

As part of the collaboration, the consortium plans to deploy up to 58,640 Nvidia GPUs across the UK, with potential global expansion reaching 300,000 chips.

Nscale and Microsoft are set to build the nation’s largest AI supercomputer at Nscale’s Loughton campus in Essex.

“We’re laying down the digital backbone for the AI revolution, strengthening US–UK technological ties and opening new doors for innovation and growth in both countries,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

The facility will launch with 50MW of AI-ready power capacity—expandable to 90MW—and is scheduled to house 23,040 GB300 GPUs by 2027.

In parallel, Nscale, OpenAI, and Nvidia are launching Stargate UK, a dedicated infrastructure platform tailored for sovereign and secure AI workloads.

OpenAI intends to install 8,000 Nvidia GPUs by early 2025, with room to scale up to 31,000 units over time.
