Best Hideout building upgrades in Assassin's Creed Shadows
Below you'll find our recommendation for the best Hideout building upgrades in Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Before we properly get into the matter, however, there's a few things I'd like you to take note of. Firstly, this ranking is organised by overall building rather than upgrade to make it an easier read, but keep in mind that the Level 3 upgrades have far higher resource requirements than Level 1 and Level 2.
Secondly, it's important to note that I made this ranking based upon what should help your overall progress in one) completing Shadows and two) supporting other Hideout construction projects. Due to this, you may disagree with my rankings.
Finally, it's important to note that you can only build one of each building and the Hiroma does not have any upgrades.
Forge
The Forge will most likely be the first new building you unlock for your Hideout and, the moment you do, you'll want to construct it. Here you'll be able to upgrade your weapons and armor up to Level 20, along with being able to dismantle any unwanted equipment. It should be pretty obvious why this is so useful - stronger weapons means more effective violence, stronger armor means less health lost.
When it comes to upgrading your Forge, it's a good idea to try and keep it in-line with your progress through Assassin's Creed Shadows' main campaign. When you feel like you've reached a point where the enemies you're facing are beyond Level 20, then it's the time to upgrade it to Level 2. At this point, you'll be able to upgrade weapons and armor to Level 40 and have the ability to apply non-legendary engravings. You'll then want to repeat this process again when it feels like your Level 40 weapons aren't as effective anymore, upgrading the Forge to Level 3 for the ability to increase a piece of equipment's level to 60.
The Forge is a vital support to your combat needs. Don't let it gather dust!
Below lies the full resource requirements and bonuses for the Forge, but keep in mind you need to recruit a Blacksmith to first build the Forge:
Level | Crops | Wood | Minerals | Bonus |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 40 | 30 | 10 | Weapons and armor can be upgraded to Level 20Dismantle armor and weapons |
2 | 350 | 260 | 90 | Weapons and armor can be upgraded to Level 40Non-Legendary engravings can be applied |
3 | 700 | 520 | 170 | Weapons and armor can be upgraded to Level 60Legendary engravings can be applied |
Study
We highly recommend building the Study straight after unlocking it, because doing so will provide you with one extra Scout. This is incredibly useful as Scouts are used for a variety of activities, from gathering resources to searching for main quest activities, but can only be used once each per season. (Unless you pay the replenishment cost of course.) Thanks to this, having an extra Scout early on in Assassin's Creed Shadows is incredibly helpful.
At Level 1, the Study will also reduce the search zone for quests by 25%. This will make it easier for you to progress in the game's main campaign as objectives will be easier to find.
We also recommend prioritising upgrading the Study as both Level 2 and Level 3 will provide you with an additional Scout. The further you get into Assassin's Creed Shadows, the more Scouts you're going to want to have so it's best to start collecting them early. Having a strong Scout collection will also hopefully mean you don't have to replenish them or skip seasons simply to refresh them as often. Seriously, we can't understate how important Scouts are throughout your time with the game! You'll definitely want them out there collecting resources when it comes to upgrading the other buildings.
Here's the full resource requirements and bonuses for the Study:
Level | Crops | Wood | Minerals | Bonus |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 60 | 40 | 10 | Additional ScoutReduce search zone for quests by 25% |
2 | 350 | 260 | 90 | Additional Scout |
3 | 810 | 610 | 200 | Additional ScoutReduce search zone for quests by 60% |
Stables
Your Hideout already comes equipped with a functional Stable, so there's no need to worry about constructing this building. If you're having trouble gathering resources though, you may want to consider upgrading it to Level 2 quite early on during your time in Assassin's Creed Shadows. This is because, at the cost of one Scout, you can tag resource stockpiles. These resources will then arrive at the end of the season and can be used to construct or upgrade other buildings. As you can see, this means the Stables are vital to supporting your Hideout construction efforts.
At Level 3, Scouts will smuggle 20% more resources from these stockpiles. Since this will further increase the amount of resources you have access to, you may want to consider making the Stables the first building you fully upgrade. Sure, it may take a while to gather up all of the necessary resources but it will hopefully make it easier to work on your Hideout in the long run.
Here's the full resource requirements and bonuses for the Stables:
Level | Crops | Wood | Minerals | Bonus |
---|---|---|---|---|
2 | 70 | 50 | 20 | Stockpiles can be tagged at the cost of one ScoutThe resources are provided at a season's end |
3 | 350 | 260 | 90 | Scouts smuggle 20% more resources from stockpiles |
Kakurega
The Kakurega is the very first building you'll construct in your Hideout and, while you might feel like you don't have to upgrade it straight away, it's a good idea to consider doing it sooner rather than later. This is because at Level 2 the Kakurega will supply you with seasonal provincial rumours. These whispers will help you find a wide variety of activities and items hidden across the region, from collectibles to unique treasures. All of these can come in incredibly handy during your time in Assassin's Creed Shadows. (Especially if you're running low on Mon…)
A Level 2 Kakurega also unlocks a new feature for the Scouts - assigning them to clear Regional Alerts. This is another Scout activity and, if you want to partake in it, you'll most likely want an extra Scout or two so make sure you're upgrading that Study!
At Level 3, you'll unlock additional Kakurega locations across Japan and the unlock cost will be reduced by 30%. Both of these facts will be incredibly useful as you travel further and further away from your homestead; reducing the need to fast travel long distances and giving you access to information about a province while actually in it. That said, this is an upgrade you can easily leave until you're able to venture into a good number of the prefectures safely. Due to this, you may want to hold off upgrading the Kakurega to Level 3 for a while in favour of other buildings.
Below you'll find the full resource requirements and bonuses for the Kakurega:
Level | Crops | Wood | Minerals | Bonus |
---|---|---|---|---|
2 | 580 | 440 | 150 | Get seasonal provincial rumors revealing collectible and unique treasures locations, and moreScouts can be assigned to clear Regional Alerts |
3 | 930 | 700 | 230 | Adds additional Kakurega locations in JapanReduces Kakurega unlock costs by 30% |
Dojo
It may seem strange to have the Dojo placed in the last spot on this list, but, remember, we've focused this list around progressing through Assassin's Creed Shadows and collecting resources. The Dojo is still a vital building and you'll not want to ignore it!
The purpose of your Dojo is to train the allies you'll make during your travels across Japan. Since these allies can join you in battle, you'll want to ensure their skills are up to snuff. Especially when you reach the late-game and are facing far stronger foes. If your Dojo isn't at Level 3 by this point, we recommend taking a break from the main campaign and upgrading it. You'll then want to invest some time in ensuring your allies are trained up to the Veteran rank.
The trick to making the most out of the Dojo is ensuring an ally is also using it. For this reason, you'll want to build it after gaining your first one (which is helpfully when it unlocks) and start training them straight away. Depending on how that training goes, you may want to consider upgrading to Level 2 when you gain the ability to be accompanied by two allies. Yet, only do so if you really must since you may find your first ally is already at the Initiate Rank. Basically, keep training allies until you feel like you really need to upgrade the Dojo.
Below you'll find all of the Dojo's bonuses and resources requirements, but keep in mind you must recruit an Ally to build the Dojo:
Level | Crops | Wood | Minerals | Bonus |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 350 | 260 | 90 | Allies can be trained up to Initiate Rank |
2 | 470 | 350 | 120 | Two allies can assist you instead of one |
3 | 700 | 520 | 170 | Allies can be trained up to Veteran Rank |
Best Hideout Themed Rooms in Assassin's Creed Shadows
Themed Rooms are additional Hideout buildings you'll unlock by completing specific activities in Assassin's Creed Shadows, such as praying at a Shinto Shrine or recruiting a number of allies. Each one provides you with a bonus, which will definitely come in handy as you travel across Japan.
Keep in mind that, aside from the Gallery and the Small / Medium / Large Rooms, each Themed Building can only be built once. Like the best Hideout upgrades list, the below has also been decided upon which buildings will assist you in gathering resources for the Hideout and overall progression in Shadows. Due to this, you may disagree with our rankings.
Nando
The Nando is one of the most useful Themed Rooms you can build in your Hideout as it reduces the cost of replenishing Scouts by 30% less resources. Scouts are a vital part of Assassin's Creed Shadows thanks to the variety of uses they have. From finding information for progressing the main storyline to gathering resources for your Hideout - you're going to be using Scouts a lot. The downside is that you only have a certain number of Scouts per season. Unless you refresh them, of course. If you can spare the resources, of course.
This is why the Nando is so useful. By reducing the Scout replenishment cost, it helps you complete more Scout-based activities in each season. This is especially handy if you're trying to bash through part of the main storyline, have a project in your Hideout you want to complete quickly or simply prefer one season to another. It will also hopefully ensure you have more resources going forward!
Building the Nando requires:
- Recruiting a specific number of Allies and Scouts
- 440 Crops
- 330 Wood
- 110 Minerals
- 1,160 Mon
Tera
Having a Tera in your Hideout will increase the amount of EXP you gain from a wide range of activities by 10%. Not only will this help you level up Naoe and Yasuke faster, but it will help you venture further across Japan (certain regions are quite dangerous) and earn those Mastery Points faster, so you can unlock the best skills. It's thanks to this that we recommend building a Tera in your Hideout from the moment you're able to. You don't want to risk losing out on any bonus XP, do you?
Building the Tera requires:
- Progressing to a specific point in the storyline
- 740 Crops
- 550 Wood
- 180 Minerals
- 1,930 Mon
Zashiki or Tea Room
The Zashiki and Tea Room both share the same bonus - increasing your Ration efficiency by 20%. This means having either will increase the amount of health you can replenish when out on a mission by a good amount. Yet, if you happen to build both at your Hideout, you'll benefit from a 40% increase to Ration efficiency. Something which could become very handy towards the game's conclusions.
Since these buildings share the same bonus, we recommend building one first - whether it's the one you prefer or the one you unlock first - and then focusing on constructing other Hideout projects. Sure, that 40% increased Ration efficiency is great but you may not want to sacrifice other projects to get it. Instead, it's best to ensure you have the 20% first and, once you've built some other buildings, return to construct either the Zashiki or the Tea Room. (Basically whichever one you're missing.)
Building the Zashiki requires:
- Offer support to a Settsu merchant
- 90 Crops
- 370 Wood
- 280 Minerals
- 960 Mon
Building the Tea Room requires:
- Offer support to a Yamashiro tea room
- 640 Crops
- 480 Wood
- 160 Minerals
- 1,670 Mon
Jinja
The Jinja is a Shinto shrine and praying there grants you a boon for the next 15 minutes, which sees the effect of any shrine boon you have increased by 20%. These boons come from praying at the Shinto Shrines you encounter during your journey and can be collected before or after you pray at the Jinja.
The downside to the Jinja is the time limit. Since you can only enjoy the 20% bonus for 15 minutes, it's best to ensure you've got the right bonuses applied already before praying there. Afterwards, you need to leave the Jinja quickly and complete whatever activity you want that 20% bonus for. All the while keeping those 15 minutes in mind, because you don't want to get caught short. This doesn't mean it's not a useful building to have, but you may want to prioritise other projects ahead of it.
Building the Jinja requires:
- Paying your respects at a large shrine
- 690 Crops
- 510 Wood
- 170 Minerals
- 1,800 Mon
Gallery
The Gallery serves three main purposes. Firstly, showing off any fancy gear you've found during your adventures. Secondly, creating equipment loadouts and, finally, switching between equipment loadouts. Thanks to this, having a Gallery on your Hideout can make equipment management a lot easier as you can store your various loadouts here and quickly switch between them. (Basically cutting down on the amount of time you have to spend staring at menus.) The question you have to ask yourself, however, is this worth the resource and Mon investment? If the answer is yes, then build a Gallery. If not, then it's probably best to focus on something else.
It's important to note that you can build multiple Galleries within your Hideout. Thanks to this, you could easily have one themed around Naoe and another around Yasuke. Sure this will cost additional resources, but it could make managing your equipment even easier if each protagonist had their own dedicated space for loadouts.
Building a Gallery requires:
- Acquiring your first piece of Legendary equipment
- 490 Crops
- 370 Wood
- 120 Minerals
- 1,280 Mon
Small, Medium and Large Rooms
The Small, Medium and Large Rooms are exactly what they sound like - rooms. They're main purpose is to provide you with a space you can freely decorate on your Hideout and that's about it. Well, they're also connectable rooms so you could use them as hall-way like spaces if you're not a fan of the Engawa, especially since you can build multiple versions of each type. That said, if you're not invested in the Hideout mechanic outside of the bonuses it supplies, you'll probably want to skip building these rooms.
Here's the requirements for building each of the Connectable Rooms:
Size | Requirement | Crops | Wood | Minerals | Mon |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Small | Purchase from Settsu merchant | 610 | 460 | 150 | 1610 |
Medium | Purchase from Yamashiro merchant | 740 | 550 | 180 | 1930 |
Large | Purchase from Yamato merchant | 980 | 740 | 250 | 2570 |
