The Logitech MX Master 3S is already one of the most comfortable mice I’ve used, and the MX Ergo S inherits that same ergonomic excellence. But because it eliminates the need for wrist motion entirely, it reduces strain on both the wrist and elbow even further—making it the more comfortable option overall.

The Ergo S features a magnetic metal plate that lets you toggle between a vertical grip and a more traditional pronated hand position. I personally favor the upright angle, though both offer distinct benefits depending on your preference.

Since the mouse stays in place, hand size plays less of a role in comfort. That said, this is a right-handed design—left-handed users are out of luck. Unlike ambidextrous trackballs, this one prioritizes ergonomic optimization over universal fit.

It’s a large device, but its base footprint is comparable to other ergonomic mice. And because it doesn’t require sliding across a surface, it actually takes up less usable space than a standard mouse. You can comfortably use it on your lap, on a couch, or in tight spaces without sacrificing usability.

Silent Clicks Live Up to the Hype

My wife uses the original MX Ergo for her daily video editing, and its standard left and right clicks produce a familiar, audible click. The standout feature of the MX Ergo S is its near-silent primary buttons—there’s no sharp “click” sound when pressing them.

And yes, it works exactly as promised. While not 100% silent, the noise is so minimal it’s practically nonexistent. You still get solid tactile feedback confirming the click, but without the distracting sound. The feel is nearly identical to the quiet buttons on the MX Master 3S.

Whether this matters depends on your environment. With a mechanical keyboard, mouse clicks are usually drowned out anyway. But if you're in a quiet workspace or shared office, the silent buttons could be a game-changer. If silence isn’t a priority, consider the regular MX Ergo on sale instead.

Connectivity & Battery Performance

Logitech claims up to 120 days of battery life, and while my usage hasn’t quite hit that, it’s still impressive. After a full charge, I’ve used the mouse for over a week, about 12 hours a day across multiple Bluetooth devices, and only 15% of the battery has been used. That puts me on track for roughly 60 days—still more than enough to make recharging a rare chore.

The mouse supports two Bluetooth profiles, allowing quick switching between devices. I’d have liked a third, like some other Logitech models offer, but two covers most users’ needs. You can also use the included Logi Bolt receiver for a more stable connection, especially useful if your device lacks Bluetooth. For me, Bluetooth worked flawlessly across modern machines, so I didn’t feel the need to use a USB port.

The Scroll Wheel Is a Weak Spot

My biggest gripe with the MX Ergo S? The scroll wheel. After using the exceptional, hyper-responsive metal scroll wheel on the MX Master 3S, this one feels sluggish, stiff, and unpleasant. Scrolling through long documents requires more force than it should, and the overall feel is plasticky and cheap.

You can adjust scroll speed via Logitech’s software, but that doesn’t improve the physical sensation. I also missed having a horizontal scroll wheel, but Logitech offers a workaround: hold the DPI button above the trackball, and the scroll direction changes temporarily. It’s smart and intuitive once you get used to it.

Precision Challenges with Trackball Design

This isn’t unique to the MX Ergo S—trackballs, in general, can struggle with fine precision. Using your thumb to control cursor movement works well for everyday tasks, but selecting small text or performing detailed actions can be tricky.

The mouse does include a DPI toggle button that lets you drop sensitivity for greater accuracy, which helps. But having to switch DPIs mid-task adds friction and breaks flow, especially during precision work.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy It?

The Logitech MX Ergo S won me over completely. When it arrived, I had zero interest in trackball mice—I’d tried them before and never liked them. But after using this one full-time for over a week, I’m hooked.

I’ll still keep my MX Master 3S nearby for spreadsheet-heavy tasks or anything that benefits from that brilliant scroll wheel. But for everything else—browsing, writing, general navigation—the Ergo S is now my go-to. I even find myself using it from the couch now, which says a lot about its versatility.
