Today’s Connections puzzle can be quite the tease, so sit back and buckle up for some of the clues you can get for this one. This one has some wild stuff going on, including what is possibly the longest category name I have ever seen. The easiest category was more like the hardest one, and I had a wild flashback to arts and crafts in Kindergarten. It was an emotional rollercoaster and one that I hope you enjoy as you go through the hints I have in the boxes below.

If you are looking for something that is hopefully a little more normal, the NYT’s Letter Boxed puzzle is consistent but also a challenge. You have to string five words together, and you will have to do so by bouncing around the sides of a box over and over again. Once you get the hang of it, you will be bouncing all around the box without an issue and getting all of the words with no problem at all.

FEBRUARY 22 #622

As stated, this puzzle was absolutely wild to solve, but I wouldn’t say it was necessarily difficult. Or, at least, it wasn’t so hard that I didn’t finish the puzzle, but it was difficult in the sense that it felt like there was no pattern at first and the patterns I did see didn’t pan out. There was a lot going on, but I managed to tease it out and now I can help you do the same.

• One category is a lot of words to describe groups of people who do things good
• One category is about four ways to create variation in a particular natural fiber
• One category is about things you might use in the arts and crafts section of elementary school
• One category is four words that come after a color in a phrase

If you still need more help, because it was crazy, you can get the following category names to help you out, as well as the spoilers further down. Apologies for how warped the box is going to look due to the first category name.

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

MEMBERS OF A TEAM WITH THE MOST CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE SPORTS
CANADIEN	CELTIC	PACKER	YANKEE

This one was a doozy, and I thought it was one of the hardest categories. CELTIC and CANADIEN would likely go together, but the other two are not necessarily in the same category. They also are not in the same sport, making it a little harder to make that connection. It’s also so specific that someone like me who doesn’t watch a lot of sports would have a harder time. And, of course, this is the longest and most wordy category name I’ve ever seen, which is most impressive but perhaps unnecessary.

Green Answers: Revealed & Explained

CREATE SOME VOLUME/TEXTURE IN HAIR
CRIMP	CURL	FEATHER	TEASE

This one was what I would consider the easiest category. CRIMP and CURL clued me in, but finding the other two words was a little harder. TEASE got added in fairly quickly, and then FEATHER was last. Notably, seeing most of the Yankee Doodle song in the puzzle also gave me flashbacks to elementary school, and I was very disappointed that selecting all four words was not the category they belonged to.

Blue Answers: Revealed & Explained

GLITTER	GLUE	MACARONI	PAPER

If Yankee Doodle Dandy triggered a small flashback, this one triggered a major flashback when I realized what was going on. Obviously, MACARONI should have gone with the other words in the song, but given that it didn’t belong there when I started putting the “art supplies” together, it ended up here as well. I had an extremely vivid image of explosions of GLITTER, liquid Elmer’s GLUE, and a scattering of MACARONI across a large amount of PAPER. I shook my head a little after to clear it out, but I think there’s probably still glitter lying around.

Last, but not least, I found this one a little wild as well. Nearly every time they do one of these categories, it’s an “X___” style. I’m not sure why they chose not to do it here, because it’s exactly the same. I didn’t find the category itself weird, but the way they structured the name was a little wild and with the way the other categories are named today, it just took me off guard. Maybe they’re trying something different, but I was not prepared. Next time I’ll try to be more prepared.
