An important early mission in Assassin's Creed Shadows is "Smuggler's Run," a quest where you steal resources to help expand and upgrade your Dojo hub. The many features of your Dojo Hideout location can help you grow stronger, providing strong offenses and defenses for you and your allies. However, the materials you want are not easy to find, making it hard to know what to steal.

You cannot start the "Smuggler's Run" quest until you've finished "From Spark to Flame," a mission found in the main story. Completing that quest will unlock "Smuggler's Run" on the Objective Board at your Dojo, making it something you can pursue at any time. To upgrade Hideout buildings in AC Shadows quickly, you should pursue the mission as soon as possible.

Recruit Scouts To Help Transport Materials

After you finish the prerequisite quest "From Spark to Flame," you can start "Smuggler's Run" from your Dojo's Objective Board. However, you need to have at least one active Scout to start the quest as well. This is tied to how your character cannot smuggle resources themselves and instead has to rely on allies to transport many goods.

Scouts are incredibly important NPCs who can do a variety of tasks, including:

• Locating important assassination targets
• Collecting resources
• Smuggling materials
• Clear your character's Wanted status

As you progress through the story, you'll eventually unlock two available Scouts by default as you unlock your Dojo's starting features. Scouts can be assigned to do any of the tasks mentioned, but you need at least two free for "Smuggler's Run." Thankfully, it doesn't cost money to use Scouts for this mission, nor does it take money in AC Shadows to use your Scouts for any smuggling job throughout the game.

How To Smuggle Resources

Mark Wealthy Stockpiles Of Valuable Materials

To start smuggling various resources, you have to find areas on the map with a high Wealth status???. From my experience, these include areas like castles and camps, not villages or towns where the people only have a few valuable items between them. For example, you're more likely to find materials worth smuggling from somewhere like Osaka or Katano Castles than anywhere else.

Once you find a place with wealthy goods, you can travel there and sneak around unseen. While you explore a high Wealth location, use the "Observe" feature to see icons of enemies and loot you can smuggle. The stockpiles of resources you need to smuggle will be depicted by a barrel symbol, usually inside a storage area or some locked part of an area.

One of the easiest ways to navigate AC Shadows for this mission is with the character Naoe instead of Yasuke. Naoe's skills are more geared toward stealth, which will help you smuggle resources without attracting unwanted attention.

When you come across a large collection of resources, an option will come up asking you to "Smuggle Resources." Next to that prompt, you'll see how many Scouts it will take to transport the materials once you mark them. You can mark materials you find in wealthy areas for your Scouts to pick up later as you loot the rest of a location for other items you can carry on your own.

Tagging a stockpile of resources will see your Scouts gather and deliver them to your Hideout at the end of the current season. One of the biggest changes from past games is how dynamic seasons come and go, giving you a good timeframe for when your Scouts will add smuggled goods you marked to your Dojo.

While "Smuggler's Run" is active, the first smuggling job your Scouts complete will meet the quest's objective, finishing it. Finishing "Smuggler's Run" allows you to start upgrading your Dojo, giving you more space to gather allies and improve features of the Hideout. The larger your Dojo gets, the more room you'll have for additional Scouts to help you smuggle more materials.

The hardest step of smuggling any resources is successfully getting past enemies into the most secure locations of wealthy areas. It may take some trial and error, but after you complete the "Smuggler's Run" quest in Assassin's Creed Shadows, future smuggling operations should be easier as you recruit more Scouts.
