The Grim Tangle is a treacherous cavern in Act 1 of Path of Exile 2, teeming with dangerous undead enemies and a volatile environment. While it appears early in the campaign and isn’t as challenging as later zones, it still houses a formidable foe that must be overcome.

That foe is none other than The Rotten Druid, the area’s boss and your first true challenge in the game. He doesn’t just bombard you with attacks—he also manipulates the battlefield to corner and overwhelm you.

Boss Abilities

• Basic Projectile: His standard move involves launching a multi-hit ranged attack. It's weak on its own, so simply sidestep or dodge roll to avoid it.
• Projectile Vomit: This is the Druid’s most dangerous ability. He unleashes a barrage of homing projectiles that explode near you. If caught in the blast, your health can vanish in seconds. As soon as you see the cast animation, roll out immediately.
• Teleport: The Rotten Druid burrows into the ground using vines and reappears close to your position. After teleporting, he may resume ranged attacks or trigger a large AoE explosion—stay mobile to avoid getting caught.
• Vine Summons: A wide pulse will ripple across the arena, signaling the arrival of non-targetable adds. These creatures swing their massive vines at you. Each hit deals minor damage, but repeated strikes add up fast. There are seven total slams—keep moving in one direction without stopping or reversing.
• Rock Slam: The Druid pauses and begins a channeling cast. A massive boulder forms above the center of the arena. Stay on the move to avoid being crushed when it comes crashing down.

Combat Tips

The arena itself is one of the biggest threats. Explosive mushrooms are scattered throughout—stepping near a cluster can wipe out your health in an instant. Avoid the center entirely, including the acid pool that rapidly drains your life.

Mobility is key. While his basic projectiles are harmless, nearly all his other moves are devastating. The Rock Slam is easy to dodge with proper positioning, but the Projectile Vomit can catch you off guard if you're not alert.
