Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 PWM Fan Review

If you're browsing TechPowerUp and haven't heard of Noctua, you might be new to the world of high-performance PC cooling. The Austrian company has been a dominant force in the industry for over 20 years, setting benchmarks for air coolers and fans alike. One of my most popular reviews on this site was for the original Noctua NF-A12x25 120 mm fan, and I suspect this second-generation model could generate similar interest. It’s been seven years since the debut of the first NF-A12x25—a period during which many capable fans have entered the market—and now we’re finally getting its successor, poised to reassert dominance in the enthusiast space.

Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 PWM Fan Review

Revisiting my original NF-A12x25 review, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the opening line about the delayed product launch. Clearly, some traditions remain unchanged—because the new NF-A12x25 G2 (Generation 2) faced a similarly extended development cycle. In fact, the larger 140 mm variant, the NF-A14x25 G2, launched first and introduced several key innovations that now make their way into this 120 mm model. Among them is a special dual-fan package that intentionally varies the RPM between the two units to create a more acoustically pleasing experience when stacked. We’ll dive into all these details and more throughout this review. As a side note, a chromax.black version is reportedly in development, but it’s not expected anytime soon—so for now, stick to Noctua’s classic tan and brown color scheme. A big thanks to Noctua for supplying TechPowerUp with review units. Let’s move on to the official specs, as shown in the table below.
