In the meantime, SilverStone has introduced the FLP01—a retro-styled HTPC alternative rather than a full tower. Love it or not, the FLP01 stands out in a sea of flashy, RGB-laden glass cases by offering a nostalgic, refreshing design twist.

Performance Testing
To evaluate the thermal performance of the FLP01, we used a test rig built around an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, Intel Arc B580 GPU, and a high-speed SSD—components capable of generating significant heat, ideal for stress-testing the case’s cooling efficiency.
Test Configuration:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- CPU Cooler: AMD Wraith Stealth
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi
- RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000
- GPU: Intel Arc B580 12GB
- PSU: Seasonic Focus GX-1000 Gold
- SSD: Crucial T700 Gen5 M.2 NVMe
- Operating System: Windows 11
For the first time in our testing history, we’re skipping the usual fan-speed vs. temperature chart for this case. The reason? Clearance issues. The FLP01 severely restricts CPU cooler height, especially when using the 5.25” drive bay, as the mounting hardware obstructs the area above the CPU socket. As shown in our video, this limits cooler choices significantly. We opted for the stock AMD Wraith Stealth and the energy-efficient Ryzen 5 9600X (88W TDP), which reached 95°C under load. The Intel Arc B580 stayed cooler at 78°C.
Final Verdict
Let’s be clear—the SilverStone FLP01 isn’t for everyone. It’s a niche product with a distinctive retro flair that will appeal more to enthusiasts with a soft spot for vintage PC design than to the average consumer.
Its throwback aesthetics and HTPC footprint might evoke fond memories for long-time PC builders, but they may seem odd or outdated to younger users. That said, if retro is your thing, the FLP01 delivers that vibe in spades.
Another standout feature is its support for a 5.25-inch optical drive—a rarity these days. However, this also introduces a major constraint: CPU cooler compatibility. You’ll need to carefully select a low-profile cooler, especially if you plan to use the optical bay. While this isn’t a dealbreaker for a typical low-power HTPC build, it makes the case impractical for high-performance or gaming rigs.
The SilverStone FLP01 is available now for £135.99 HERE.
Pros:
- Unique, nostalgic design with playful retro touches
- Supports legacy 5.25” optical drives and 3.5” HDDs
- Ample room for full-sized motherboards and standard ATX PSUs
Cons:
- Tight clearance severely limits CPU cooler options
- Its retro look might clash with modern living room setups
- Slightly overpriced for what’s included—only one 120mm fan provided
