Patch 8 of Baldur's Gate 3 introduced 12 new subclasses, one of which is the Circle of the Stars Druid. This type of druid gains their abilities from their understanding of the stars, and is perfect for those who want to play as a spellcasting-oriented druid. The subclass functions similarly to the cleric, and can serve as a great healer or devastating damage dealer.

One problem that a lot of players have with the druid class is that they won't get to see their player character a lot of the time. After spending hours in character creation, they'll be stuck looking at an owlbear for the majority of their gameplay. However, with the Circle of the Stars Druid's approach to wildshape, this class is ideal for those wanting to play as a druid while still making the most of their cosmetics.

Three New Wildshape Forms, Cleric Spells, & Advantage For Attack Rolls & Saving Throws

The Star Druid Class introduces a new type of wildshape - the Starry Form. There are three types of unique forms - archer, dragon, and chalice. Unlike regular beast forms, you can switch between different starry forms once per turn without having to dispell your current starry form, or use another wildshape charge. Although it misses out on the Moon Druid's more powerful beast forms, this versatility makes it one of the most useful subclasses. When in Dragon form, if a constitution saving throw results in a roll lower of nine or lower, it will be corrected to a ten.

This subclass also gains access to some cleric-adjacent abilities, gaining guidance at first level, and the guiding bolt spell after reaching second level. This can be cast with a spell slot, or a "Star Map" slot - Circle of the Stars Druids start off with 2 Star Map slots, but will gain an extra one at level five and nine. At Level Six, they also gain "Cosmic Omens," which can be used to increase or decrease attack rolls and saving throws, similarly to a Sorcerer's "bend luck" ability. You can use it to add an extra boost to guidance.

Max Out Wisdom, But Make Sure Not To Forget Consitution

As a druid, you need to make your wisdom modifier as high as possible - this is especially crucial for this specific subclass. When in a Starry Form, you can still cast spells, so you'll want to focus more on your spell slots. However, since only the Dragon form gives you a slight bonus to constitution, it doesn't protect you with an extra health bar like regular wildshape. I'd recommend picking up the Amulet of Greater Health in Act 3 to help with this, though another helpful item is the Ring of Protection rewarded by Mol for stealing the druid idol.

A must-have item for all druids in BG3 is the Shapeshifter hat. this adds another wildshape charge - since you can already switch between starry forms without using up a charge, having an extra one will allow you to play for a long time without the need to rest for more. This can be obained from Helisk in the Devil's Fee. However, the Helmet of Grit and Pyroquickness Hat also grant the player extra bonus actions, which will allow you to use the Starry Form abilities more often.

The most obvious choice for multi-classing would be the cleric class, since the two are already quite similar and both use wisdom modifiers for their spells. It works particularly well with the life domain, since the Chalice form can provide significant extra healing for your team. Life domain clerics gain a bonus to healing at level one, so you only need to take one level in it for a little extra boost. They also get heavy armour proficiency, which is another way to defend your character whilst in a starry form.

Some good feats to take are an ability improvement in Wisdom, Resilient: Constitution, and War Caster.

Auntie Ethel's hair can increase any ability by one, and the Mirror of loss can increase any ability by two. If you also wear the Khalid's gift amulet, which can be found in a display case in Elerrathin's Home in the lower city, you can increase your wisdom to 24, which is the most ideal for this class. The Circle of Stars is by far one of the most useful druid subclasses in Baldur's Gate 3, and can even give the Life Domain cleric a run for its money.
