Ubisoft has unveiled a fresh content roadmap for Assassin's Creed Shadows, confirming the launch date for its upcoming expansion, Claws of Awaji. The DLC is scheduled to arrive on 16th September as a paid addition to the game—though players who pre-ordered Shadows will gain access at no extra cost.

Upon release, Claws of Awaji will expand the experience with a brand-new region to explore, a unique weapon, enhanced abilities, fresh outfits, legendary gear, and a new chapter in the game’s narrative. Players can also expect to face off against a new enemy faction and challenging boss encounters. Ubisoft estimates the expansion will add more than 10 hours of gameplay.

In addition to the expansion, a New Game Plus mode is set to launch next week on 29th July, bringing with it new achievements and trophies for returning players.

Further updates are also in the pipeline, focusing on quality-of-life improvements. These include uncapped frame rates for cutscenes on PC and the ability to fast-forward the in-game time of day. One particularly notable update involves the world map: Ubisoft clarified that once all viewpoints in a given region are synchronized, the fog of war will now fully clear, allowing players to better plan their exploration.

The studio recently announced that Assassin's Creed Shadows has welcomed over five million players since its March launch. In that time, players have collectively performed 2 billion stealth kills, petted 38 million animals, and traveled a staggering 1 billion kilometers across feudal Japan. With rumors of a Switch 2 port in development, even more players may soon be heading to the game’s rich open world.

Elsewhere in the franchise, Netflix’s long-gestating live-action Assassin’s Creed series has officially been greenlit, five years after its initial announcement.
