OVHcloud just launched a new ‘environmental impact tracker' so enterprises can keep tabs on their cloud footprint
Jul 23, 2025 am 12:04 AMOVHcloud has introduced a new solution designed to help businesses monitor their carbon emissions and minimize cloud resource waste.
This new offering, called the Environmental Impact Tracker, is described by the company as an “upgraded version” of its previous carbon calculation tool, providing users with more comprehensive visibility into the environmental effects of their cloud operations.
With this updated tool, customers can now monitor emissions across a broader set of services, such as baremetal servers, hosted private cloud environments, and public cloud compute instances.
It will also provide data on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions “from the initial manufacturing stage through to infrastructure operation,” as well as lifecycle assessments of hardware and internal components.
OVHcloud also revealed intentions to eventually expand the tool’s functionality to include public cloud storage and web hosting services, though no specific release date was provided.
Grégory Lebourg, OVHcloud’s Global Environmental Director, stated that the introduction of this tracker continues the company’s longstanding commitment to promoting sustainability within the cloud computing industry.
Earlier this year, the company was recognized as a leader in sustainability performance in its category by S&P Global Ratings’ Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
“In today’s world where every action matters, accurately and transparently measuring your environmental impact is not just a choice—it’s a duty,” he said.
“As a responsible provider, we help our clients understand and manage their environmental impact. That’s why we continue to enhance our Environmental Impact Tracker, which has become a leading solution in the market,” Lebourg continued.
OVHcloud expands sustainability visibility
The new features provided by OVHcloud are intended to streamline carbon tracking for businesses by offering insights from “two key perspectives.”
The first involves tracking emissions during the “usage phase,” incorporating average emissions data based on the customer’s location and the energy providers used by OVHcloud.
The second aspect includes an evaluation of factors like component refurbishment during the server manufacturing process.
By incorporating these views, OVHcloud aims to offer businesses a more complete picture of their emissions across both their supply chain and the full lifecycle of their IT infrastructure.
Looking forward, the company plans to add further metrics to the tool, including data on water usage, abiotic resource depletion, and land use impact, for more detailed sustainability analysis.
The Environmental Impact Tracker is currently available globally to all OVHcloud customers, with the “exception of the United States.”
ITPro has reached out to OVHcloud for further explanation regarding the exclusion of U.S. users.
