Shadow Surfing Challenge is a unique obstacle course found on the Radiance Layer of Donkey Kong Bananza, creatively titled Surfing in Shadow. The twist? Unlocking the Hidden Level on the Radiance Layer

Before you can begin, you might not even be able to locate the level entrance. If you’re having trouble, try facing away from the level’s opening, then head over to the igloo nearby and punch through it.

Inside, you’ll encounter a builder character who can open the level for 1,000 gold. Once you’ve paid the fee, you're all set to begin your shadowy surf session.

How to Obtain the Second Bananadium Gem

Early in the level, you’ll notice a narrow path branching to the left. Unfortunately, this path is fully exposed to sunlight, so the purple enemies won’t work here. Instead, complete the initial section of the course until you reach a rest area, then drop down to the lower platform.

Here, you’ll find red enemies, which are immune to sunlight and can be ridden. Attack one, grab it, and carry it back up the ladder. Then, surf it back along the main path until you reach the curved side path. It’s tight, but there's no time pressure, so take your time navigating around the bend to find the hidden Bananadium Gem.

Completing the Surfing in Shadow Course

For players struggling with the basics, here's a step-by-step guide. At the beginning, lure a purple enemy into the shade, which will cause it to dry up into a solid white shell. Grab this shell and surf on it using ZL, allowing you to glide across the thorns.

The key is to stay in shadowed areas. Exposure to sunlight will cause the shell to revert and quickly deteriorate. This is why the red enemy is necessary for the alternate path.

In the second section, the process remains the same. Lure the enemy into a shadow, grab it, and surf to the finish line. You can jump while surfing, so leap over the moving obstacles in the middle. Just be careful not to step into the light, dear adventurer.
