As part of these updates, new pals, resources, and tools become available. This opens up access to more crafting options, blueprints, weapons, and equipment, which can be used to reinforce your base, boost your survival odds, and grow your collection of pals.

Where To Find Whalaska

Whalaska is a newly added pal introduced in the latest game update. To recruit it into your team, some travel will be required.

Head to the northernmost part of the map, where you’ll find a frozen island-like region known as the Isle of the Glacial Core.

Near this location, you should spot one or two Whalaska swimming nearby. Their large size makes them easy to identify.

To capture one, ensure you have a strong capture sphere ready. Reduce its health without killing it to improve your capture chances, then throw your sphere.

Alternatively, if you choose to defeat it, there’s a chance you might obtain Pal Fluids, Coralum Ore, Ice Organ, or Large Pal Soul.

There’s also another method to acquire this pal—fishing. However, success isn’t guaranteed on the first try, so patience is key.

On Feybreak Island, both to the southeast and west, you’ll find several fishing spots that may yield a Whalaska.

But that’s not all—there’s also an Alpha variant of Whalaska you can track down, although it won’t be as straightforward. Fortunately, it’s located close to the Isle of the Glacial Core, just northwest of it.

Before attempting to fight it, make sure you have a flying or aquatic pal, since there are limited solid platforms to stand on during battle. You’ll need to rely heavily on ranged attacks to weaken it before capturing it.

You might wonder why it's worth the effort to track down Whalaska, but there are several good reasons.

This Ice-Water type pal is ideal for placement in your base, as it’s likely the best option for Cooling and Watering tasks, performing them exceptionally well with Level 3 Watering and Level 4 Cooling.

However, if you prefer to bring it along on your adventures, that’s a solid choice too. Whalaska is an excellent combat companion, especially effective against Fire-type enemies. In addition, once you craft its saddle, you can ride it as a mount, helping you move across the world more efficiently.

That’s still not everything. One of the most notable features of Whalaska is its ability to assist with fishing.

Thanks to its Partner Skill, the fishing minigame starts with the capture gauge partially filled, and the gauge increases faster when the timing bars align, making it much easier to successfully catch fish and other pals.
