It’s July! The month that Octavian — Augustus Caesar — named for his uncle, Julius Caesar. Augustus gave himself the next month, August, and ever since we’ve had a 12-month calendar honoring two of history’s most powerful rulers. Roman Empire aside, we have words to uncover. Let’s solve this Strands!
Strands is the latest addition to the New York Times’ collection of puzzle games. It offers a fresh take on classic word search puzzles. Each day, we’re given a new theme and must locate all the relevant words on the grid related to that theme, including a spangram stretching across the board. One of these words is the spangram, which connects two sides of the grid and provides further insight into the day’s theme.
Spoilers ahead.

Here’s the completed Strands grid:
Today’s Strands Breakdown
This was a moderately challenging Strands puzzle. Some words like SLIDE, TRAIN, and even FUNHOUSE were fairly easy to spot. I struggled more with CAROUSEL. I kept seeing ORACLE and couldn’t let go of it for a while. I also found PARK early on and knew it had to be something like THEMEPARK but didn’t find AMUSEMENTPARK until after getting most of the other words. SCRAMBLER came last. To be honest, I'm not a big roller-coaster fan. Anything that jerks my neck around just causes too much discomfort.
