Wordle Analysis
Each day I use Wordle Bot to evaluate my performance. You can test your own Wordles against Wordle Bot at this link.
I must have been thinking geographically today because I started off with SPAIN (which oddly works), but when that gave me no yellow or green tiles, I tried GLOBE as guess #2. That narrowed down the possible answers from 586 to just 23. HOLLY brought it down to two options—MOLDY was the one I thought of immediately. According to Wordle Bot, FOLKY was the other, though it didn’t cross my mind during gameplay. Take a look at our results below. What’s amusing is that we tied despite using completely different words, and yet had nearly identical tile patterns. Five grey boxes, followed by yellow 'LO' in positions two and three, then OL and Y in green. The only difference was the Bot had a yellow D where I had none. Other than that, our games were almost mirror images.
Competitive Wordle Score
We both scored 0 points for getting the answer on the fourth try and 0 for tying. So we begin July just like we ended June:
Erik: 0 points
Wordle Bot: 0 points
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 earns you 3 points; guessing in 2 gives you 2 points; guessing in 3 gives you 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 deducts 1 point; guessing in 6 deducts 2 points; and failing to solve deducts 3 points.
- If you beat your opponent, you earn 1 point. Tying gives you 0 points. Losing costs you 1 point. Total your score each round. Keep a daily tally or start fresh every day.
- On Fridays, points are doubled—both gains and losses.
- Track your total over time or play anew each day. Most importantly, enjoy the game!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The term moldy originates from the noun mold, referring to fungus, which itself comes from Middle English molde or mould. Likely derived from Old English molde, meaning “earth” or “soil,” it reflects the association of mold with damp, decaying environments. The adjective suffix -y was added to form moldy, describing something “covered with or having the smell of mold.” The word has been used since at least the 14th century.
