Tamagotchi games – whether that’s a physical Tamagotchi or Tamagotchi Corner Shop on the Nintendo DS – have typically been single-player experiences revolving around caring for virtual pets or cheerful characters. Tamagotchi Plaza follows suit, once again placing you in the role of someone working hard at various shops in Tamahiko Town to assist different Tamagotchi and help the town reach superstar status, attracting more characters along the way.

This time though, Tamagotchi Plaza introduces multiplayer under certain conditions. After all, every dentist needs an assistant! Here’s everything you need to know about multiplayer in Tamagotchi Plaza.

Tamagotchi Plaza multiplayer guide

Multiplayer in Tamagotchi Plaza is quite limited, but it's present! While the entire game can't be played cooperatively or with friends roaming around Tamahiko Town together, some minigames within the shops do support local multiplayer with one additional player.

It's important to note that this is strictly local play and requires two Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons or separate controllers. There is currently no option for online multiplayer in Tamagotchi Plaza.

Additionally, local multiplayer is only available in specific shops within Tamagotchi Plaza:

• Dentist
• Rap Battle Venue

There are also secret shops in Tamagotchi Plaza that players can unlock, and we haven’t yet confirmed if these support multiplayer features. We’ll update this guide once we have more details.

To engage in multiplayer, simply enter either the Dentist or the Rap Battle Venue, where you'll be given the option to choose between ‘Solo’ or ‘Duo’ play.

Select ‘Duo’ to proceed, and you’ll then be asked to choose between ‘Sharing’ or ‘Holding Hands’: ‘Sharing’ mode is for those using two Joy-Cons, while ‘Holding Hands’ mode is for those using two individual Switch controllers.

Once your controllers or Joy-Cons are set up, you and another player can enjoy either mini-game together as a duo instead of playing alone!
