If you've ever found yourself stuck with an unintended in-game purchase in Fortnite, whether by accident or due to a child randomly pressing buttons, there may be a way to recover some of that money.
The Federal Trade Commission has reactivated a previously closed process for filing refund claims related to a $245 million settlement reached between Fortnite developer Epic Games and the agency back in 2022. These refund applications were initially closed in February, but the FTC has reopened them, setting a new deadline of July 9 for anyone who wishes to file a claim for unwanted Fortnite purchases. You can submit your application directly through the FTC's website.
However, your claim must meet certain specific conditions to qualify. According to the FTC, eligible claims include:
- Being charged for in-game currency or items you did not want between January 2017 and September 2022
- A child making unauthorized purchases using your credit card without your consent between January 2017 and November 2018
- Having your account locked after disputing charges on your credit card between January 2017 and September 2022
Additionally, you must be at least 18 years old to file a claim. Best of luck to all affected players.
