What Was In 'Rise Of Iron,' Supposedly As Big As Destiny 2's 'Edge Of Fate'
Jun 28, 2025 am 09:51 AMWhat we’ve heard previously, though, is that these smaller expansions such as The Edge of Fate and the upcoming Renegade are intended to be about the same size as Rise of Iron from Destiny 1. Here’s assistant game director Robbie Stevens during a livestream from late last year:
“The way we’re thinking about the scale of these expansions is similar to Rise of Iron in Destiny 1, but this time it's happening twice a year compared to before.” In Codename Apollo, the first expansion under the Frontiers initiative, players will explore an entirely new “Metroidvania-inspired destination.”
Having two expansions the size of Rise of Iron each year sounds promising in concept, even if there aren’t full “seasons” separating them like now. But is the forthcoming Edge of Fate expansion actually on par with Rise of Iron in terms of content? My initial impression says no, although it might still be too early to confirm. What we can do, however, is break down what Rise of Iron offered so we’ll be ready to compare when Edge of Fate finally launches. Here’s the list.
- Five core story missions centered around the SIVA conflict
- Several post-campaign quests, including exotic weapon quests, featuring seven exotic weapons—two being updated versions (Iron Gjallarhorn, modified Thorn), and others including Khvostov, Trespasser, Nemesis Star, Outbreak Prime, and Young Wolf’s Howl.
- Iron Temple social space, The Plaguelands Cosmodrome addition, Archon’s Forge activity
- Three strikes, some reworked from earlier versions: Sepiks Perfected, The Abomination Heist, and The Wretched Eye
- Wrath of the Machine raid
- Four Crucible maps: Floating Gardens, Last Exit, Skyline, and Icarus (PS exclusive). Supremacy playlist was also introduced
So, what about Edge of Fate? What information do we have so far? A new raid is confirmed. We know of four exotic weapons and three exotic armor pieces. It has been confirmed that there won't be any Crucible maps included.
What remains unknown? We haven’t heard anything yet regarding strikes. We don’t know the campaign length or the actual size of Kepler, and it doesn’t seem to include traditional elements like Lost Sectors or patrol zones. Whether or not it will include exotic quests is still uncertain, though it’s possible.
Is this truly Rise of Iron-level content? Again, much is still unclear. If certain features like strikes or Crucible maps were part of the package, we’d likely have already heard about them. When it releases, we’ll be able to make a proper comparison. Interestingly, a Rise of Iron-inspired “major update” is also coming three months from now—not at the same scale, but bringing back things like the Plaguelands. Time will tell how they stack up.
