Every delivery you complete increases your connection level with the people you’re helping, and they may reward you with new items to craft as a token of appreciation. Early in your journey through Mexico, you’ll encounter La Madre, a pregnant woman living among a small group of elderly individuals. Assisting her feels rewarding on its own, but it also brings tangible benefits.

How To Start The Lost Cargo Recovery Aid Request

After meeting La Madre and connecting her to the Chiral Network, she introduces you to a new type of mission—Aid Requests. These differ slightly from standard orders, so you might find yourself a bit confused at first. However, before diving into these requests, you must first reach Villa Libre.

Reaching Villa Libre

At the start of the game, Sam is tasked with traveling to the La Ciudad Distribution Center and linking it to the Chiral Network. Once this is done and Sam reaches his private room, a new assignment becomes available. A nearby settlement called Villa Libre requires assistance. It consists of one pregnant woman and several elderly residents. Due to their isolation and lack of access to the Chiral Network, they are severely lacking medical supplies and care.

Accept the next main order: deliver Remote Medical Units to Villa Libre, and prepare for the trip ahead. There are multiple paths you can take, but two will stand out. One leads through a Bandit camp to the north, while the other is a longer, obstacle-free route.

However, if you choose the safer path, the game introduces a new environmental challenge—flooding. Rivers can overflow and expand, even filling dry valleys, which complicates travel. If you're confident in stealth or combat, going through the Bandit camp may actually be easier.

Unlocking The Lost Cargo Recovery Request

Upon successfully completing your delivery, hand over the Remote Medical Devices to La Madre, your contact at Villa Libre, and connect her to the Chiral Network. She will then give you another main order that takes you through a Bandit Camp in the forest, ultimately leading to the activation of the next Distribution Center.

In addition, she now introduces the concept of Aid Requests, offering the very first one immediately. Several packages containing walking aids for the elderly were swept away during a flood, ending up dangerously close to a Bandit encampment. Rather than being formal orders, these lost items are scattered in the world for you to recover when convenient.

How To Reach The Walking Sticks

As this is your first Aid Request, it's relatively straightforward. The walking sticks appear as four individual pieces of small cargo, so ensure you have enough space in your inventory before heading out. This detour takes you away from the direction of your next main mission, so decide which you'd like to tackle first.

These items are located not far from the route you originally took to reach Villa Libre. They lie along the banks of a river, near a Bandit camp. Provided there’s no active flooding, you can safely descend into the dry riverbed and collect the cargo. For best results, attempt this during calmer conditions. Traveling at night can help avoid confrontation with nearby Bandits, though they can often be avoided during daylight hours too.

Once collected, simply return to Villa Libre. As before, the trip back should pose minimal issues. Return the walking sticks to La Madre to complete the Lost Cargo Recovery Aid Request.

How To Unlock The Electric Rod

Similar to the original Death Stranding, the sequel rewards you for strengthening your connection level with Preppers and Distribution Centers across the map. Even in the early parts of Mexico, you can unlock some powerful gear, both familiar and new.

La Madre, in particular, offers an impressive tool—the Electric Rod. If you recall seeing Mules wield this in the first game or have encountered Bandits using it in Mexico, you'll know how useful it can be. So when does La Madre offer it to you? Specifically, once you reach a two-star connection level with her.

You can increase your connection level in various ways, including picking up lost cargo you come across in the wild. However, these yield only minor boosts. To get the Electric Rod quickly, complete the Lost Cargo Recovery Aid Request from La Madre. Doing so will likely bring you to two stars, and possibly even close to three.

How To Use The Electric Rod

Once obtained, the Electric Rod grants you many of the same abilities previously exclusive to Bandits. When drawn, you can swing it as a strong melee weapon, though each strike reduces its durability.

It can also serve as a defensive tool. By holding L2, Sam enters a blocking stance, negating all incoming attacks without needing precise timing or dodging.

Additionally, the Electric Rod can be thrown. Holding L2 and pressing R2 throws the rod forward instantly, while holding R2 allows for aimed throws, increasing range and accuracy. Upon impact, it creates an area-of-effect shockwave that stuns any humans caught within and disables vehicles and electronic devices.

Keep in mind, however, that the Electric Rod has no effect on BTs.
