ForbesNYT ‘Strands’ Hints, Spangram And Answers For Tuesday, June 24By Paul Tassi
How To Play Strands
The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a variation of the classic word search. It’s currently in beta, so its continued presence depends on daily player engagement.
Each day brings a fresh Strands puzzle. Players are given a six by eight letter grid. The objective is to locate words sharing a common theme, with a hint provided for guidance. When you uncover a theme-related word, it stays highlighted in blue.
Additionally, there's a special word called a spangram to find. This reveals the link between the words and spans from one side of the board to the opposite side. While theme words won't be proper names, the spangram can be. Finding the spangram results in a yellow highlight.
Be prepared to think carefully.
“The themes might include fill-in-the-blank phrases, steps in a process, items within the same category, or synonyms and homophones,” notes The New York Times. “Just as Wordle puzzles vary in difficulty throughout the week, [Wordle and Strands editor Tracy]
Bennett intends to keep Strands players on their toes with occasional surprises.” What Is Today’s Strands Hint?
Time to share the NYT hint followed by my own:
Worth the splurge
And my added clue:
Financially irresponsible
What Are Today’s Strands Answers?
Now onto today's solutions, including the spangram and other theme words. Here's the spangram:
LUXURYGOODS
Check out how it appears here, then continue below:
Here are the additional answers:
- JEWELRY
- PERFUME
- CONVERTIBLE
- WATCH
- HANDBAG
If you're someone who spends freely, this puzzle may have suited you well. I'm not quite that kind of spender, yet I finished this one in about 38 seconds—definitely a quick solve day. All these choices make sense to me, though I wonder if perfume qualifies as much as the others. Prices do vary, but compared to these other high-ticket items, some costing thousands or even tens of thousands, it feels slightly less extravagant. Not that I’d consider myself a snob or anything.
