Today brings a challenging round for the Connections weekend puzzle, featuring at least two categories that might trip you up. Let’s dive into some hints and solutions to help guide you through.
How to Play Connections
Connections ranks as the second most popular game in the NYT Games lineup after the traditional crossword, offering an engaging and free mental workout every day. You can play it right here.
The objective is to find connections among a set of 16 words by grouping them into four sets of four related terms. These links could be specific categories or subtle wordplay clues that require figuring out which words pair before or after each other. The complexity increases as you progress.
Each puzzle has only one correct solution, and you have limited attempts, so guessing randomly isn’t a viable strategy. Difficulty levels are color-coded—typically starting with yellow, then moving to blue/green, and ending with purple. Keep this in mind as you work through the groupings.
Once you select four words you believe are linked, the game will confirm if they match or if you're close by just one word. After four incorrect guesses, the game ends. If you'd rather not risk failing, you can look up the answers here or reset your browser cookies to try again. What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
Below are the complete answers for each group. Please note, this section contains major spoilers, so proceed with caution. Here are the final groupings:
- Yellow Group - Goddess (DIVA, ICON, LEGEND, QUEEN)
- Blue Group - Dogs of the Screen (ASTRO, BLUE, HOOCH, TOTO)
- Green Group - Elements of a Classic “Mom” Tattoo (ARROW, HEART, MOM, RIBBON)
- Purple Group - _____ Terrier (BORDER, BOSTON, BULL, RAT)
I found the Yellow Group relatively straightforward, perhaps because I’m exposed to social media trends where people often label artists like Sabrina Carpenter or Taylor Swift as "divas" or "legends," sparking endless debates. It can get pretty tiring.
The Blue Group wasn't too bad once I noticed Hooch and Toto. I quickly realized Hooch must refer to the dog rather than slang for alcohol, since no other clue matched that context. I figured out Blue was from Blue’s Clues eventually.
The Green Group caught me off guard. I haven’t personally seen many classic “mom” tattoos, only ever spotting them in movies or TV shows. At first, I thought this was related to Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day motifs. Close—but not quite. Here’s what the final combination looked like:
Many alternative combinations I tried didn’t include arrows, which threw me off.
And then there’s the Purple Group—tricky stuff. In hindsight, it makes perfect sense, but while solving, it was tough to connect these even knowing it revolved around a “blank” phrase. I wasn’t familiar with a Border Terrier—I only knew of Border Collies. My bad.
