Pokemon Legends: Z-A Pre-Order Guide - Editions, Platforms, And Bonuses
Jun 06, 2025 pm 06:04 PMPokemon Legends: Arceus turned out to be quite popular among Pokemon fans. So much so that on October 16, 2025, we’re getting a follow-up, Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This time around, instead of taking place in an earlier version of Sinnoh, Legends: Z-A will take trainers to a futuristic Kalos, focusing on Lumiose City. It will also be the first new Pokemon game to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, so expectations are high given the widespread appeal of Arceus.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also be available on the original Nintendo Switch, so don’t worry if you don’t have a Switch 2 by October – you won’t miss out. There will also be a paid upgrade option for anyone who wants to switch from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 version after launch. All the details about the different versions of Legends: Z-A, the upgrade path, pre-order bonuses, and more can be found below.
Where To Pre-Order Pokemon Legends Z-A On Nintendo Switch And Nintendo Switch 2
Given that more than 150 million people own a Nintendo Switch, and only a small fraction of them will have upgraded to Switch 2 by October 16, releasing Pokemon Legends: Z-A on both platforms was essential if Nintendo and The Pokemon Company wanted it to perform nearly as well as Scarlet & Violet and Legends: Arceus. However, the Switch 2 version will cost more. The Switch 2 version of the next Pokemon game is priced at $69.99, while the original Switch version costs $59.99.
There’s a pre-order bonus tied to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but it’s only available if you pre-order through the Pokemon Center. Regardless of whether you plan to play on the original Switch or the Switch 2, if you pre-order a copy of Legends: Z-A via the Pokemon Center, you’ll receive a Sitting Cutie plush featuring one of the game’s three partner Pokemon: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. Unfortunately, unlike in the game itself, you won’t be able to pick your preferred starter plush; you’ll simply have to hope for the best.

Upgrading Pokemon Legends: Z-A On Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo has had to follow in the cross-generational footsteps of PlayStation and Xbox for the Switch 2. This means not only is almost every Switch game compatible with the Switch 2, but certain original Switch games, both old and new, offer upgrade paths. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is one such game, meaning even if you purchase the OG Switch version, you can upgrade to the Switch 2 version at a later date.
Since there’s a $10 difference between the Switch and Switch 2 versions of Legends: Z-A, it will cost you $10 to upgrade if you bought the Switch version and wish to move up later. Interestingly, even though Legends: Z-A isn’t due until October 16, the option to pre-order the upgrade is already available through Nintendo. If you’re planning to start on the original Switch but know you’ll eventually play the next Pokemon game on Switch 2, you can secure your upgrade now and avoid worrying about it later.
