ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Hints For Thursday, June 5: Clues And Answers For Today’s GameBy Kris Holt

Hello, Connectors! I trust you've enjoyed a fantastic week so far.

This is a significant day, not just because the Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been released. Yesterday, I achieved a 99-game Connections winning streak. This is by far my longest streak (my previous best was 32). Winning today will bring my streak into double figures. That would be quite nice. While ultimately meaningless in the grand scheme of the universe, arbitrary numbers do have an effect on our minds.

I’m eager to experience that rush of endorphins as my streak counter moves into double figures. I’m ready. Let’s get started.

Before we begin, we have a wonderful little community on Discord, where we discuss NYT Connections, other NYT games, and various other topics. Everyone who has joined has been delightful. It’s a fun place to hang out, and you're more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to provide feedback about the column, particularly on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions when I make a mistake. I don’t frequently check the comments or Twitter. You can also read my weekend editions of this column via my new newsletter, Pastimes.*

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Friday, June 6 are coming up shortly.

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. A new puzzle appears at midnight every day. You can play it on the NYT’s website or through the Games app.

You are given a grid of 16 words. Your goal is to sort them into four groups of four by identifying the connections between them. These connections could be anything like items you can click, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, so be cautious when dealing with words that might belong to multiple categories. You can rearrange the words to potentially help you see the connections more clearly.

Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is typically the easiest to solve, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the trickiest one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you believe belong together and press Submit. If you submit an incorrect group, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might receive a message indicating you’re one word away from solving it, but you’ll still need to determine which word to replace.

If you make four mistakes, the game ends. Let’s avoid that by using some hints, and, if necessary, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s simple to share your results with friends on social media and group chats.

If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every past Connections game, allowing you to revisit any you may have missed.

Other than the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find our hints online if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or answers to the search query.

What Are Today’s Connections Hints?

Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today’s Connections groups, I’ll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words belong to them.

Today’s 16 words are...

  • DOOR
  • TUBE
  • EGG
  • FROG
  • BAG
  • BUBBLE
  • FISH
  • LADDER
  • TOOTH
  • BRUSH
  • BOWL
  • EYE
  • CHEESE
  • MOUSE
  • CAKE
  • CUP

And the hints for today’s Connections groups are:

  • Yellow group — starts with a letter near the end of the alphabet
  • Green group — things you’d expect to see in a children’s book
  • Blue group — things you’d expect to see in a kitchen
  • Purple group — things you’d expect to see in a dentist’s office

One Word For Each Connections Group

Need some additional assistance?

Be warned: we’re beginning to enter spoiler territory.

Let’s take a look at one word for each group.

Today’s Connections word hints are…

  • Yellow group — TUBE
  • Green group — FROG
  • Blue group — BOWL
  • Purple group — TOOTH

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?

Today’s Connections groups are...

  • Yellow group — things that resemble cylindrical objects
  • Green group — characters from nursery rhymes
  • Blue group — items used for eating
  • Purple group — tools used for dental procedures

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Do not scroll any further down the page until you’re prepared to discover today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • Yellow group — things that resemble cylindrical objects (BAG, DOOR, TUBE, TOOTH)
  • Green group — characters from nursery rhymes (BUBBLE, EGG, FROG, MOUSE)
  • Blue group — items used for eating (BOWL, BRUSH, CUP, LADDER)
  • Purple group — tools used for dental procedures (CAKE, CHEESE, EYE, FISH)

I found it quite intriguing that both TUBE and TOOTH carried over from yesterday’s game! BOWL could have gone with the kitchen-related items but I thought it made more sense with BRUSH, CUP, and LADDER. But no! I was one away from a group there. I realized a moment later that TOOTH should go with those three. I blame the TUBE, TOOTH, and FROG red herring for me getting that wrong initially.

No more complications. It was all pretty straightforward from there. I got the yellows then the greens no problem.

I should have at least recognized the tools in the purples but alas, I did not. They refer to CAKE, CHEESE, EYE, and FISH.

CAKE, CHEESE, EYE, and FISH each won this category before it was rightfully merged with the male equivalent into the Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance category (which itself was discontinued).

Anyway, I am into triple digits with a Connections streak for the first time ever! I don't care that I got here without getting a perfect game at the end.

It feels like a nice little achievement to reach this point for the first time, especially after only looking up things once on this run (I had to Google those types of penguins a few weeks ago!). Anyway, for the record, here's how I fared with this one:

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Saturday’s game if you need them.

P.S. I'm going to have to go with a song from one of the performers in the purple group. I really love "Soak Up The Sun" by Sheryl Crow. It's such a great summer song and it has a nice message about having a positive attitude.

Somewhat ironically, I spent pretty much an entire summer listening to C'mon, C'mon (the album this is song is from), Come Away With Me by Norah Jones and Audioslave's self-titled debut while staying inside and playing a video game with my friends.

I’m going to try to do a better job of taking the song’s title to heart this summer (remember to wear sunscreen and take other heat precautions!):

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
