Assassin's Creed Shadows: A Yokai Quest Guide
This guide details the "Yokai" side quest in Assassin's Creed Shadows, covering all objectives and Yokai member locations. Six Yokai must be defeated to complete the quest.
- Region: Yamashiro
- Questboard: People of Yamashiro > Mamushi > The Yokai
- Quest Giver: Mamushi (Nyoji Daiji Temple)
- Unlocks: Act 2
- Recommended Level: 41
- Rewards: 5500 XP, Naoe skill ("Critical Insight"), Yasuke skill ("Level-Headed")
- Synopsis: A monk-turned-demon hunter seeks assistance in investigating yokai rumors.
Quest Start:
Locate the "!" icon in Harima > Engyoji (available in Act 2). Examine the dead body.
Speak with Mamushi to initiate the quest. Your response to his dialogue options ("I believe in yokai," "I don't believe in yokai," "I'm not sure") has no impact on the quest's progression.
Confronting the Yokai:
The Yokai will appear on your Objectives Board. Note the following seasonal and time-based appearances:
- Winter: Begin with Yuki Onna.
- Summer/Autumn: Start with Suika no Bakemono.
- Nighttime: Target Oshiroi Baba and Kappa.
Strategically tackling the Yokai across multiple gameplay sessions is more efficient than waiting for in-game time changes.
Yokai Locations and Strategies:
- Daitengu: Arima Onsen (Harima > Kakogawa Estuary). Identify him by the two flags on his back.
- Taka Nyudo: Kabasaka Village (Tamba > The Silver Lands). He holds hostages in a garden.
- Kappa: (Nighttime only) East of Haunted Tatarigami Village (Yamashiro > Genbu Highlands). Following the two green children will lead you to Kappa.
- Oshiroi Baba: (Nighttime only) East of your Hideout (Izumi Settsu > Nara Heartland).
- Suika no Bakemono: (Summer/Autumn only) Suika Lands (Izumi Settsu > Yawata Plains). Your dialogue choice determines which of the two watermelon-headed men you fight.
- Yuki Onna: (Winter only) Location shown below. Assassinating her in place or following her into the cave yields the same result.
Quest Conclusion:
Return to Mamushi. A cutscene will trigger upon entering the tower. Defeat Ao Andon in the ensuing battle to complete the Yokai quest.
